Now's the time to grab one of those "Attractions Dining & Value Guide" books, which feature hundreds of coupons toward Triad area restaurants, stores, entertainment and green fees.
We broke it in Saturday at US Sushi at the Friendly Center. Saved $12. That's about half the cost of the $25 book, which is sold by area groups including nonprofits and churches for fundraisers.
Other restaurants in the book include Solaris, Steak Street, Laddie & Duke's and Giovanni's.
More informal options include Papa John's, which has buy 1, get 1 free coupons on pizzas. Quiznos, Subway, Pizza Hut, and Waffle House are some others.
News & Record employees including yours truly pay $12.50 for the book per some arrangement with our circulation department. But I'd still pay $25 for it and come out way ahead.
The amount we saved on last year's book numbers in the hundreds of dollars. Coupons we used last year include buy 1, get one 1 free dinners at J Butler's Bar & Grill (great beer specials during the NFL season, by the way), free bucket of balls and free round of golf at Bur-Mil Park, discount on green fees at Bryan Park, and discounts at Circuit City, Home Depot, Great Clips and Best Buy.
One big downer regarding this year's book: no coupons this year for some retailers including Best Buy. But the book does have some newbies, including discounts toward one of my other favorite places to shop in the Triad: Gander Mountain .
Affordably-priced fishing tackle aplenty, baby, inside a huge store filled with lots of outdoor eye candy. That's what I'm talking about.

We've purchased one of these every year for the past five years. This year we were a little dissapointed that there were so many coupons for places in the outlying hinterlands.
