Garage sale shopping 101

The Free to be Frugal blog offers tips on shopping at yard sales.

Tips include grouping sales by location to avoid wasting time and gas. You'll also want to check out my blog on Fridays. You'll see a Google map I created showing you locations of yard sales listed in the Triad as advertised in the News & Record.

Other tips include bringing plenty of loose change and having a water bottle and snacks handy.

Other stuff you need: a tape measure, a magnet, a magnifying glass, cell phone, sun screen, hand sanitizer.

Also attend yard sales without your kids:

"This will cut down on impulse purchases and save you from ripping that 'must-have' baby doll from your screaming child’s hands and dragging her down that long driveway."

Triad yard sales this weekend

It's time to get back in the hunt. Been a while for me.

I've snatched some good stuff out of yard sales in Greensboro, including: a tripod for $3.75, putting mat for $4, holiday stein for $3, battery-powered camping lamp for $2, lots of NASCAR-related stuff on the cheap (hats, T-shirts, toy cars, walkie-talkie) for my rabid-fan sister. Other stuff, too.

Indoor yard sale at Kiser Middle

Kiser Middle School off Benjamin Parkway in Greensboro is holding a yard sale in its gym Saturday, March 7 from 6 a.m. to noon.

Items for sale will "be very reasonably priced with very few items over 10 dollars," art teacher Jeremy D. Thomas told me in an e-mail.

Thomas is accepting donations throughout the week. Contact him at kiserartfundraiser@gmail.com to set up a time.

More information at Thomas' Web site through Kiser in here.

Depending on how much is raised, proceeds will be used for supplies including student aprons, a digital camera and storage bins.

Thomas said he'd like to have enough to take his art club kids to some of the galleries around town, but that will depend on how much is sold.

Hoppers yard sale in Greensboro is for the dogs

It will be held Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the minor league baseball park's NewBridge Bank Park on Bellemeade Street, which will be closed.
