The Forbidden (Furniture) Market...

Sure is not hiding any skin. I flew in to PTI yesterday and was greeted, as all visitors, by two young women wearing skin tight black mini-skirts barely covering the necessities and high heeled boots.

They were welcoming buyers to the Forbidden City's Furniture Show, an alternative to Vegas, supposedly.

Is this the image that the Triad wants to project? They might as well have been reps for Christie's Cabaret. Or maybe they were pushing a new line of Victoria's Secret bedroom suites.

Marta,

You want to know the difference between the women greeters in Las Vegas & our fair community?

In Greensboro they hand out maps and flyers for restaurants, in Las Vegas they hand out flyers for call girls.

I believe the Wild Side is gonna win this time. Say goodbye to conservative High Point, hello Las Vegas.

And, oh yes, they probably do moonlight at Christies' Cabaret.

I want to tell you there's nothing sexier than a beautiful young lady outfitted in a skimpy leather outfit at an airport.

I saw 4 of the girls on WGHP-TV news, and their attire was not too offensive. (Although there are those who believe that all women should wear full cover robes.)

As for the girls other work, that is offensive. Models work everyday in the Piedmont. To imply that all pretty girls are strippers is beyond belief.

Enough Marta's obsession with scantily clad women.

An article in yesterday's Business Journal reports that at least 27 area hotels have reduced their rates in order to keep the High Point market competitive with Las Vegas. However, it didn't report by how much.

Several years ago I tried to rent a room around Market time at the Holiday Inn Express east of G'boro and the rate was @170.00 per night. In a recent article in the N&R on the Las Vegas market I read where the rooms were going for @85.00 per night.

With the furniture jobs going overseas it's only a matter of time before High Point becomes second fiddle to the Las Vegas show.
