Workforce Preparedness Study Ready for Work
High Point Council members Tuesday said a workforce study is ready to move off the drawing board and into action.
The Council will officially vote next Tuesday whether or not to move the study - which it commissioned in August 2005 for $70,000 - into its implementation phase.
The study looked at how prepared High Point's workforce is for future job growth. The report showed that many High Point workers and students lacked the education and skills for employment in emerging industries.
The next step could cost $176,280 - 50 percent paid by the city and the remaining fees raised by donations from the community.
The Herman Group, the Greensboro-based consulting firm, that conducted the study recommended Tuesday that Loren Hill, president of the High Point Economic Development Corporation head up a task force to help implement a plan for the community.
"We have to believe in this to get others to invest," said High Point Mayor Becky Smothers Tuesday.
