84 Lumber calls High Point's number

84 Lumber, the nation's largest privately owned building materials retailer, is trying to boost its bottom line and intends to close 67 stores this year.

However, it plans to open 125 other stores in parts of the country it deems as fast-growing. One of those areas, according to a company news release, is High Point. No word yet on where the company would build.

High Point already has an orange box and a blue box, but that's not likely to matter much to 84 Lumber. It sells primarily to major builders, not your average home owner or small contractor.

By the way, in case you wondered why the company is named 84 Lumber, it takes its name from the town in Pennsylvania: Eighty Four

I cannot imagine a business section any less informative than the one you are trying to push on your NEWS AND RECORD readers. My parents subscribed to your paper when I was a child and I have had always had your paper in my home.
I have seen your newspaper go from one of the best papers in the State of NC to the lowest of the totum pole. Just about all your news can be heard on tv the day before, and with the same words that we heard the day before. I guess it all comes from the same place. You don't even try to change it around to be more original.
As far as local news, you have to read it in another local paper.
The last straw is your new business section. Do you think by making the print bigger, you don't have to put as much information in your paper? The stock information is terrible. I guess it take a little extra work to have a great business section and maybe, with this so-called Market in Review, you can get rid of a few more employees.
You may be able to get rid of some employees, but you have just lost a loyal customer. The Winston-Salem Journel looks better each day.
