North Carolina and Triad cities make Forbes list
If you’re starting a business or looking to expand, the Tar Heel state may be one of your best bets.
In a list published by Forbes magazine, North Carolina ranked third – behind Virginia and Texas – as the best states for business.
The study rated the 50 states in six areas: business costs, economic climate, growth prospects, labor, quality of life and regulatory environment.
North Carolina ranked fourth in business costs and growth prospects and third in regulatory environment. Its weaker assets were economic climate, where it came in 30th; and labor and quality of life where it ranked 26th.
Some of the state’s cities also ranked among a list of the top 200 metro areas for business.
Raleigh ranked second; followed by Durham at eighth; Charlotte at 29th; Winston-Salem at 62nd; and Greensboro at 78th. Fayetteville and Hickory were also ranked among the top 200.
According to the metro list, Greensboro was in the top 25 cites for cost of doing business and the top 54 for cost of living.
Among the worst states for business were Mississippi, West Virginia and Louisiana.
