Rum Monkey closed

Yes, we have no bananas.

Rum Monkey restaurant, open on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro for less than a year, has closed. Owner Kotis Properties hopes to re-lease the space to another restaurant but has no immediate plans.

That location borders the inner city as well as some industrial type businesses. In addition it's at the low end of Battleground and not convenient to it's targeted market.

After three quality restaurants have failed to thrive, I would think twice about investing at that location.

We were very excited about Rum Monkeys in Greensboro. We visit in Charlotte and enjoy the menu and service.Nice place for kids. My daughter went for her birthday(Greensboro location..food & service ok) so we decided to take an out of town guest there. After being seated by a disinterested hostess we sat among 3 dirty, smelly tables for over 15 minutes without notice. Busy you might ask? Rum Monkeys had 2 4 tops and a duce. Staff was quite noisy in the kitchen. Spoke to the manager who seemed disinterested also. Bad location maybe...Bad everything else absolutely.. What a shame.

I used to work at Rum Monkey as well, and agreed the place could have used a little help, but overall it was a wonderful place to work, a very fun menu, and I enjoyed my experience there. I will have to say that they could have gotten rid of some of the bad/negative employees a little sooner, and the place could have survived. I think a combonation of bad publicity decisions, lack of marketing, and failure in complete customer satisfaction played a huge part in the restaurant not making it. We had customers...just had a hard time keeping them. Ironically, I miss working there but life goes on!
