State behind the ball on announcement
Two months after High Point and Guilford County officials authorized a total of $164,000 in incentives for the expansion of Lodging by Liberty (formally Lodging by Charter) in High Point, the state department of commerce announced the company's intentions to expand Tuesday.
Gee, what a surprise!
Brown Jordan International, a designer, manufacturer and marketer of furnishings and accessories, said in October that it was planning to expand it's Lodging by Liberty facility as long as it received the requested local incentives. The local money was required as a match to the $135,000 One North Carolina Fund grant the company was set to receive from the state.
The only thing new that came from Tuesday's announcement was that the company's name has been changed from Lodging by Charter to Lodging by Liberty.
But that tidbit didn't come from the department of commerce release. It came in the form of a clarifying e-mail sent out by the High Point Economic Development Corporation who released the news about the expansion in October.
It's nice to know that somebody was on the ball. I guess the department of commerce folks were a bit behind on their paperwork.
