Lottery Update: Shaheen arrives in December

From our friends at the Associated Press:

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina's first lottery director says he will start at his new job during the first week of December, when the clock will begin to meet a four-month deadline to get the games started.

Thomas Shaheen resigned as director of the New Mexico lottery last week, two days before the North Carolina State Lottery Commission hired him. Shaheen's contract provides for a $50,000 bonus if the lottery begins within four months of his start date.

Shaheen expects the lottery to be up and running, at least with instant scratch-off tickets, by early April.
"History has shown in the last few (state lottery) startups that it can be done in four months," he said Monday.
