Harrison on Black
When I asked Rep. Pricey Harrison for her thoughts on Jim Black Friday she said, "I'm evolving."
Last November, Harrison was one of the first area legislators I interviewed about Black and she said "I do appreciate his leadership, and I'm supportive of him, and I'm not going to back off on that."
She still thinks the Speaker has been a good leaderbut now she thinks he may need to temporally step aside. (Published Saturday.)
More to come in Sunday's paper.

Mark, I think the story about which you are speaking was run in today's paper. And you did a nice job.
I live in Pricey's district. I remember during her campaign two years ago, there was a seemingly endless flurry of mailings on oversized glossy cards promoting her candidacy. I had been involved with campaigns before; and I can tell you it was relentless, and I had never seen anything like it. Mailings are quite expensive for campaigns.
I seem to recall they indicated having been paid for by the NC Democratic Party. I wonder, in retrospect, how much of that may have been Black's fundraising dollars at work.

Joe: I think a good bit of that was party money, but Pricey also raised quite a bit of her own money as well.
Yes, the story on Pricey ran today. There's an other story running Sunday on the same topic. (Odd thing in the news business: you set out to work on one thing and then end up with two stories.)
Sunday's story will talk more about Pricey, as well as an aborted move at the Guilford Democratic Party convention to call for Black's resignation.
