From today’s paper:
- Senators are considering an instant runoff bill. It would avoid second primaries with really low turn outs.
- UNC wants to be exempted from current state building rules. Predictably, some folks think this is a bad idea.
- The cable deregulation bill, which would facilitate telephone companies getting into the video service market, is headed toward the governor.

- If you pack 200 state officials on a state-paid cruise, you will attract some attention.
- If Cooper really is out of the race for governor, the dynamics in the Democratic primary just shifted a whole bunch.
- Speaking of 2008, Jack Betts has a suggestion as to who might be running for the Republican nod. Lake is an intriguing option, in no small part because he has a history of winning state wide races.
