Converge this: Brad Miller and Red State
So, there was a little blogging/new media/etc… conference today in Greensboro. It seems all had a good time.
During the opening session, Red State (conservative blog) founder Mike Krempasky said that he thought Brad Miller, a Democratic congressman, should be re-elected.
This caused a great laugh in the room and I could see people instantly begin to punch away at their keyboards. Later in the day, my boss asked if it was news – as in news we should write in the newspaper rather than deal with in an online space (like here).
I said no for a couple reasons. For starters, while Krempasky may be well known in the world of blogs I don’t think many voters in the 13th Congressional district know who he is or would care what a guy who lives in Virginia and works in D.C. says they should vote for. If a sitting public official (such as a Republican Congressman from N.C.) had come out and said something similar, that’d be bigger news.
Second, I said that by the time I got some alone time with a computer today, the comment would already be well reported and vetted by those in the blogsphere.
Looks like I had that one right:
And while I know this is the type of thing that gets people fuzzy with excitement, keep the comment in perspective. It was not so much of a buy-in with Brad Miller’s left of center politics as it was an indictment of Vernon Robinson’s campaign, which has been noisy and in your face.
By way of full disclosure, I was part of a group that ate dinner with Krempasky Saturday night. We agreed first thing during the evening that our conversations were off the record. But I will say watching him keep up with the Kos comments was entertaining, especially because he was sitting across the table from liberal online guru Matt Gross.
All of which is to say this should be fabulously entertaining in the blogsphere for a few days, but doesn’t really strike me as the sort of thing that would move poll numbers one way or another.

"R-Rated" Robinson has backed off of his sex commercials against Miller since the Foley scandal broke out.
Guess Robinson has been warned that he, like other publicly homophobic republicans "doth protest too much", and might start having too much in common with Foley.
Darn, because the R-Rated Robinson's commericals were really disgusting alot of the GOP in our state too.
R-Rated Robinson truly is the "Uncle Creepy" of our state.
