Kindley behind

I've been keeping track as the votes are coming in, and it appears former Guilford GOP Chairman Marcus Kindley is going to loose his bid for state party chairman. He's behind in the raw vote count and will lose unless the weighting of votes changes things.
Will update later.

Update: It's official. Daves wins.
Kindley won roughly 35 percent of the vote. The Guilford County delegation was split 30-43 in favor of the hometown boy. Charlotte, by comparison, went 105-8 for Daves.

Marcus needed to win at least one of the more populous counties besides Guilford to have a chance.
That didn't happen.

"Marcus needed to win at least one of the more populous counties besides Guilford to have a chance."
Actually, he needed a lot more than that. According to the numbers at this blog, Marcus could have taken every one of the 113 votes from the most populous county, Mecklenburg, which went overwhelmingly against him, and still lost.

Ed: It wasn't close enough to bother with this, but the final vote was weighted by county based on population. The weighted result was something like 4,000-plus to 2,000-plus.
If Marcus had split Mecklenburg and Wake and managed to keep Guilford in line, he would have been much closer.
At the end of the day, I think his biggest problem was that Daves put together a better campaign and had more people reaching out on her behalf.

I disagree.
There were other factors at work that contributed to the results.
I base this on personal experience and knowledge gained from attending county and district conventions, and speaking with others from areas where I wasn't able to attend.
There was one major factor for Linda's success which was quite apparent at the convention itself. I don't recall reading about it in any of the published reports, but I may have missed it.

And that factor would be...?

The advantages of incumbency, and everything it gave to Linda and not to Marcus.
Sue Myrick's lack of traditional neutrality in this area didn't hurt Linda, either.
