Jamin'
The Charlotte Observer wrote today that the paper backup systems for touch-screen voting machines had a nasty habit jamming. That should be old news to Guilford County residents, who say about 9 percent of their voting machines get gummed up in 2006.
Charlotte reports that there have been steps taken to reduce the paper jams:
The machine's manufacturer has retooled the printing function so it uses less paper per voter. That means fewer roll changes and fewer jams. Counties also are using different paper that is less affected by humidity.

If a company can engineer a printer that doesn't jam, then stick it in a voting booth, I sure hope they slap their name on it, because that manufacturer would totally get my write-in vote for something.

It would be great advertising, wouldn't it. Although, when I think about the number of times I've used an ATM or a gas pump without the receipt getting stuck, it makes me think it's possible.

Shake off the Hawkeye returns, Mark, we were talking about politics (and printers).
This conversation had nothing to do with cash or the price of oil, the money you have according to that miniature bank statement from the ATM, or how much you just paid to fill up your automobile with gasoline.
But, since my Nikkei stock is shot for the weekend, I could really use the name of that printer manufacturer right now, because I can't see in black & white what I have, or have to lose, until I overcome this "!Feed! Error!" problem.

The suggestion was that if you can build a little printer for an ATM or a gas pump, then surely you can build one that works for a voting machine.
My printer is an Epson I got for "free" when my wife and I bought a new digital camera a year ago.
