Questions for the governor?

Gov. Mike Easley is spending some time here toward the end of his term doing interviews with us scruff media types. The barkeep's is here, News 14's is here.

My turn is scheduled to come tomorrow (Tuesday). So what should I ask? What do you want the man to look back on after eight years in office?

When I asked this question on Twitter I got this suggestion:

It would be interesting to see if Gov Mike is happy where the Lottery is today? Has it done all he thought it would?

What's your thought? Get 'em to me by Tuesday mid-morning.

Mark:

For the Gov:

Jobs and education go hand in hand, but neither has been high on the radar scope in this state, and especially in the Triad. North Carolina has one of the highest dropout rates on record and is also experiencing the highest unemployment rate in years, with the slowest rate of new business attraction and retention in years. Professional job opportunities are almost nonexistent in the Triad area and $9/hour service jobs cannot sustain our local economy. A recent published article named Asheboro and Lexington as on the brink of serious poverty. And still another recent article waxes poetic about long-time residents moving out of state in search of job opportunities. What could you have done differently in terms of real economic development and education reform in this state?

Sorry I missed this one. Rats. I would have asked how the governor grew to have so little interest in interacting with the pesky people he was elected to work for. Probably just as well, though. I doubt he would have bothered to answer.

As I wrote to the Bar Keep, I look forward to you keeping an eye on all the Honorables in 2009 as they scurry every which way for budgetary cover.

Cheers!

James
