Hagan on SCHIP (video)
U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan spoke in favor of the SCHIP bill, despite the fact it includes a hike in the tobacco tax to pay for the program. A final vote in the Senate is expected Thursday.
Burr spoke against the same measure Tuesday.
"Not passing this bill is simply not an option," Hagan said Wednesday. It's worth remembering that when Hagan got into the race against Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole, Hagan cited Dole's rejection of the SCHIP bill as a big reason she decided to run.
However, that's not to say Hagan loves everything about the bill.
"I vehemently believe that the increase in the tax on cigarettes that this bill includes is regressive and patently unfair to states like North Carolina which employs more than 65,000 people in jobs directly to the tobacco industry," she said.
Hagan alluded to proposals to tax junk foods that lead to childhood obesity as a way to pay for the bill.
For some reason, CSPAN split Hagan's segment into two bits.

Guess this bill includes full health care for illegals. I sent
her a letter trying to find out . Never got a reply, did not expect to. One thing I noticed about liberal politicians, they know the liberal press, is not going to print anything bad about them, so they do as they please. My opinion of her is she a common witch.

Doug:
If you follow the link to my post on Burr, I cover the question regarding health care for immigrants there.
And on a decorum note, I think regardless of how you feel about the senator's position, you could do better than name calling.

If Senator Hagan opposes a tax on tobacco on account of it being unfair to tobacco states like NC; then wouldn't her plan to tax junk food instead be unfair to fat people and pastry makers?
At some point we have to learn that it's not about which stuff you tax and what stuff you spend; but about a deeper fundamental concept which is deeply flawed in the modern rightward vs leftward socialist America
