Smoking bill in health committee
Rep. Hugh Holliman said today he expected the smoking ban bill to be heard in the House Health Committee Thursday. That committee typically meets at noon in Room 544.
This is the measure that would ban smoking in all workplaces, including bars and restaurants.
"I think we have the votes in the committee but I don't want to cut off debate," Holliman said. It's possible, he said, that the Health Committee could send it on to a Judiciary Committee Thursday.

Smokers have no rights,at least let us provide them with some help since we are a nation of good wonderful people.

If anyone were to look at the numbers, smokers deserve a compromise at least. They contribute to the economy and taxes directly by the price of tobacco products, not to mention the high price paid for health insurance. What about obese people, their contribution being minimal to the state or health insurance, but the consumption of health care cost being almost equivalent to that of smokers. So smokers pay for their costs and are denounced as unhealthy, hence an attempted ban; however, people support obesity? Do they coo at the relative appearance obese people have to large cuddly animals?
