An apology
Over the weekend, The Chalkboard was hit with several obscene "spam" postings. Similar messages were left at other News & Record blogs. I'm sorry if anyone was offended.
We cleaned these messages off and our IT department is working on ways to block these types of spam messages. Until then, we're going to keep an eye out in case we get spammed again.
But we also aren't going to do anything that would limit your ability to express your opinions. The Chalkboard was created to be a place where you, our readers, can exercise your right to free speech about education and school-related topics. And it's going to stay that way, whether some spammer likes it or not.

THANK YOU, BRUCE. Long live free speech. Thank you for deleting the SPAM was more like SPORN.

While the public at large may not know what you're up against, those others of us who publish on the web are well aware of what a problem it has become. I've been hit several times myself.

Okay, we should have this problem solved. Here's a message from Charles Stafford, operations manager for News & Record Interactive:
"Our all-purpose, ever-so-useful, one-and-only internal developer, Stephen Paschall, has implemented a solution to the comment SPAM problem.
Those who wish to comment on the blogs will now be required to enter a numeric code contained in an image. This should prevent automated robots from leaving comments for drugs, porn or other websites."
A note from Bruce: I just tested this out and it worked fine. But if you have any trouble posting, please let Jennifer or me know.
