« Proposal would pull $1.5 million from poor high schools | Main | Coming Sunday »

A big Monday meeting

Don't forget: the Guilford County Board of Education will be hold a special meeting 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Guilford County Schools central office, 712 N. Eugene St. in Greensboro.

The meeting centers around the controversial proposal to move federal Title I money among several schools. Four high schools - Andrews, Dudley, High Point Central and Smith - would lose approximately $1.5 million. That money would be redistributed to poor-neighborhood elementary schools.

Although I realize that the middle of the day is almost impossible for most people to attend, I hope some of the people on this blog will do their best to come. If I can I am gong to attend. My guess is that there will be different proposals than we saw at the BOE meeting-- maybe some 'tweeking.'

You are right, Debora. Mid day meetings are par for the course when it is something this important.

I guess the high schools no longer reside in poor economic neighborhoods.

Since they have improved so much, money is no longer needed and should go to elementary schools.

This is a statistical movement of funds that would improve Guilford County's statistics. It is not like Guilford County is going to lose the money.

As far as the meeting time goes it is special. Any time the board wants to do something counter to what they believe the public desires. They will hold the meeting during the day because that when the majority of parents can attend. The staff and board have much more important things to do in the evenings than meet with the public.

If the board disagrees with Mr. Grier's proposal it will be a special meeting! All special meetings require police attendance.

I will leave it to you to figure out if I am serious or just amused like a rabid dog.
