A tragic day

For the second time in a month, tragedy has struck a local high school.

A Northwest High School student was killed this morning in a car wreck.

Just three weeks ago, two Southeast High School students died in a fatal wreck and two other students were injured.

The Northwest student, whose name has not yet been released, was returning from serving breakfast to the homeless at Greensboro Urban Ministry. A regular Chalkboard reader suggested we send donations to the ministry and I think that's a wonderful idea.

Contributions may be made to:
Greensboro Urban Ministry
305 West Lee St.
Greensboro, NC 27406

The phone number is 271-5959 and you can print out a pledge form off of their Web site. And as another reader said, our prayers go out to the family during this unimaginably difficult time.

How else can we make sense of this tragedy except to think that in doing God's work, we are given new life.

May God bless this family.

AMAZING GRACE

Amazing grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Bruce,

Thank you for posting the information on Urban Ministries.

If some of you are short on cash to donate, they are always happy to get canned food and clothing; sheets and blankets are especially needed.

We will all be counting our many blessings as we pray for this student and his family. To anyone who has a kid who drives, a hug and a prayer is great each time they get in that car.

God bless the family of our lost student and those of the lady that was killed. My heart goes out to them and their friends. No one gets over a loss of a child- the world isn't suppose to work like this. I know this since 7-16-01 we lost my two nephews in the same type of tragedy. I agree that we all need to count our daily blessings and for me my son is the top of that list.

THE LAKE

I cannot tell you why my friend,
I cannot tell you why
But I know we feel the presence of God's love
When one of us must die
How else could He get so close to us
To fill that void within our hearts
But to touch us with the love and kindness of our friends?
One person is removed from earth
And leaves an empty space to fill
As rushing water forms a clear blue lake
That once was just a hole
With such a force one can't explain
It leaves a fresh clean lake to heal our souls.
So are our friends God's given us
In full force in time of need
But the lake is always there to quench our thirst
To bring us calmness
To refresh us.
Ripples can move it with the throw of one pebble
But the lake remains
Steadfast
Always there
Always will be
No matter what the distance
Or because of the busy lives we lead
The lake will always be there
Giving us what we need.
