Growth next door
The Triad's second-largest school district is projecting a growth boom in the next few years.
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools officials expect the district's enrollment to reach nearly 50,000, up 1,100 from last year. That enrollment may reach 60,000 by 2013-14. Because of the growth, Forsyth officials are talking about a bond referendum to build more schools and renovate others.
Guilford County Schools expects more than 68,000 students when classes start back this fall. That's a 1,500-student increase from last year.

The good news for Forsyth County is that they will be able to hire the needed and qualified teachers to accomodate that growth since swarms of Guilford County teachers will be migrating there when they get sick and tired of how they are being treated here and don't get a deserved raise.
Of course, that is bad news for Guilford County as they will continue to experience the bleeding caused by incompetent leadership of its schools. But, Guilford County citizens can't complain. They chose to elect and re-elect these people, and they choose to retain Terry Grier, as one of the highest-paid schol officials in the state. And, if you count his moon-lighting income, he is probably the highest paid governmental offical in the state. Voters usually get what they deserve in this county.

Hmmm...the grass may not always be greener on the other side, but I might take that chance...Hasta luego GCS!

Andi,
Enjoy your trip to the west. The good people in Forsyth County are good people, and they will appreciate your work much more than in our school district, and hey, you'll probably have a reunion celebration with many of your former associates and friends there, as so many of them are teaching there now. You'll find that school district to be professional in its policies, and it treats its teachers, students, and parents in a manner that they all deserve, which is something that won't happen in GCS for many more years until our present incompetent leadership is replaced. Of course, that could take years with a heavy toll on all of the combatants.

Hey Andi, I met a girl at the mall today who is a teacher in Forsyth County. She was born and raised in High Point. She told me she loves working there and would never work for GCS. I can't say I blame her. I would stand on a corner with a tin cup before I would work in GCS. Might be worth looking into!

I will definitely look into that. Thanks!

In the 2004-2005 year, Forsyth paid $77 per day for certified teachers. Wake County paid $77 per day. Guilford County paid $75 and has no plans in the new budget to take any adjustments in the pay. I cannot understand why subs are ignored.
