Halloween Hijinks

From today's Inside Scoop:

Two Guilford County Board of Education members are getting more tricks than treats this Halloween from critics of a controversial student assignment plan.

Effigies of Dot Kearns and Susan Mendenhall have been placed on telephone poles on north High Point’s Southwest School Road. The “board members” are dressed as witches, while another spooky figure holds a familiar yellow-and-black “Get Terry Grier Outta’ Here” sign. Kearns and Mendenhall support the High Point high school reassignment plan, which is bitterly opposed by many Southwest parents.

A couple of merry pranksters sent me copies of this photo:

Bruce,

NOW if that makes the print addition, I'll add you to my Will!
Also, do you know where I can get a new ass? I just laughed mine off!!!

Never mind, I'll just head to Eugene Street.

Now, Bruce, you are really showing some moxy at your young age!

No butt, we can go to Eugene Street together since I laughed my butt off, too. God, I would HATE to be on the wrong side of some of these people!!!

goodwitch,

I think the moral is: you don't mess with kids. I myself am generally a pussycat but screw with my kids and my claws will come out.

I think an injustice may have been served on the ghouls by hanging Kearns and Mendenhall's names on these. :oD

Bruce,

As funny as this picture is, I can't believe it didn't make the N&R's pictures of the day!

Dot might even chuckle at how creative some of the "Art School" parents/students/teachers can be!!!! And YES Terry, I did say teachers.

Bruce,

This will go a long way toward redeemning yourself with many HP parents!

Oh, I don't know that I need redeeming with High Point parents, Numbersgame. I have a good relationship with many HP parents - and the vast majority of posters on this blog. Just because they ask tough questions and may disagree with some things they see in the N&R doesn't mean they don't like/respect me and vice-versa.

But that's a long-winded way of saying I'm glad you enjoyed the photo.

I'm in no way endorsing (or criticizing)this Halloween prank, but enough people were talking about it that I figured people might like to see it for themselves. We're always glad to post anything you folks tell us you want to see, provided we can get it.

In America, One of the last FREEDOMS that we are allowed to hold on to is our FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

After hearing of the TERRORIST act that occurred on Southwest School Rd. this afternoon, I pondered as to why a person would want to take this right away from the American public.

If a person would steal this right away, what else might they stoop to..... Just think if this person were a banker,,,would they STEAL my Money???????????? What if they were a Leader in say,,, the "Chamber of Commerce",,,,could we trust the economic well being of our town???????????

Who knows who this TERRORIST may be,,,, but I hope to GOD that I will never have to entrust any thing of value to this Mouse of a Man.

LET FREEDOM RING!!!!!!!!!!!

I moved before my kids had to endure the wrath of Grier and Company. I keep up with Guilty County via some of these blogs and the online newspapers.
I had to laugh when I saw the pictures this morning. The likeness was incredible.
What is surprising is that this small man would try to impede one's right to express themselves freely. I remember a Mr Hennis from my days in Guilty County. He hung the county commissioners in a similar fashion but with much greater zeal. To my knowledge, no one ever tried to take away his right to free speech until he threatened with a fake bomb.
If this is true, shame on you for being so small minded Mr Oots!
Thank you for the Halloween surprise posters. If it wasn't so sad, it would be amusing.

If elected to ward 6 we will take it to the council and then on to grier, and never look back because Fear is not an option.
And you can take that to the bank!!

My campaign is in sharp contrast to the Becky/Dot/Grier status quo.

The inert belief in City Hall right now is that the City Council has no
business in the business of education----except, of course, to collect
the school ax (take a look at your tax bill), confiscate education funds
via the 'red light cameras", and spend city/taxpayer funds to buy the
Simeon Stadium from the School system.

Isn't it amazing how the city has not business in the school business except
when it suits the purposes of city hall's agenda---not when it matters where
our kids go to school.

Please understand that my opponent is recruited and supported by Mayor
Becky----and will support the "gag order" rule imposed on the City Council
by the current leadership at HP City Hall.

Meaning she will not speak out against and will not support any motions
or resolutions to challenge the Greensboro Board of Education's current
and infamous "school chance" plan imposed by the GCS Board.

If I am elected to HP City council, my first motion will be for a vote
by the council expressing opposition to the current lottery chance
plan and a request to the GCS Board to withdraw it and cease and
desist on that plan.

But, understand, I cannot even get the floor or be recognized for that
motion if we re-elect the current mayor.

That is why it is important that you vote TIM BROWN for Ward 6 High Point
City Councilman-----and Rep. Steve Wood for Mayor.

A MAYOR WOOD would.....not only recognize me for my motion,
but would vote with us on the motion.

The humor and the satire in the "effigies" must not be just something to
revel in during Halloween. they must also motivate us to go and vote--
either in Early Voting or on election day, Tuesday, November 8, to
vote for Brown for Ward 6 and Wood for Mayor.

Then the effigies will have proven an effective way to motivate us common
folks to not only satirize and challenge, but to change the status quo
of Emorywood driven social and political culture that has dominated our
city for so long.

There is war and then there is the "cold war". The General has made some interesting points. Could you trust someone who might be a banker and want to do retirement funds with the school? Maybe bankers have an interest in construction fund lending for some new buildings? Could people be on the HP Chamber of Commerce along with other HP City leaders who helped support the IT Plan?

And as I have often said before,

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." - Albert Einstein

The NR editorial endorsement this morning,
(otherwise known as the Doug Clark's other column),
offers effusive praise for Tim Brown's opponent in HP City Council's Ward 6 race.

Folks hereabouts should know that, as stated in
the annointment by a paper that is one of the most staunch defenders of the High Point School "Chance" plan, their recommendation for a
candidate "in the mold of Laura Wiley", former
occupant of this Ward 6 seat who sat motionless
and mute on Council doing Mayor B's biddings
while this school plan was implemented, can not
and will not be tolerated in this election.

The editorial is right when it says the Council cannot control the school board, but can only use
its "powers of persuasion" with its members.

Well, let's use our "powers of persuasion" at
the ballot box -----and not shoot ourselves in the foot here, folks by electing a junior
Mayor B (who by the way supports Brown's opponent)---and put Tim Brown downtown on
High Point City Council, Ward 6.
