Redistricting update
The Guilford County Board of Education has a choice to make on redistricting: Do they redraw attendance lines across the county, as board member Anita Sharpe has suggested, or do they simply redraw lines to fill the new schools that will be built? Sharpe has requested maps that will put all students as close to home as possible.
Board members once again will discuss redistricting at their Dec. 6 meeting. They still hope to have this all finished by January.

Note to Schoolboard members:
I've seen Santa's list and his "good" list could use a few more names....I didn't see these:
Alan
Marti
Dotty
Susie
Deena
Amos
Walter
You know what to do to get on the list. Feel free to do it on Dec. 6th. ..that is if you want a really good gift this year. Remember, the kids in High Point have gotten coal and lottery tickets for the past 2 Christmas seasons. It's time to do the right thing: UN-Do "it".

for someone's politics, they must go.

Won't be from Lake Jeanette or the Park of Irving. Nor from the Farm of Adam, or the Woods of Emery, but from the lands between, you can bet, the one's without a schoolboard rep.

Santa's Helper,
I think Alan and possibly 2 others may be on Santa's good list??? Santa knows people can change their minds. Santa also knows some people never change. Santa see all the politics in the land of High Point in his magic globe. It is not good. Some of the people will be getting lots of coal this year for screwing with good people's lives. Santa also knows elections are coming up next year.
By the way, Santa will be visiting the SW Road display during his flight this year to see all the lights, music and festivities. Please have some hot cocoa for Rudolph.
What do they do, Bruce??? They ditch the lottery as Nancy suggested. They could keep some of the programs. They give the children of High Point the same choice as the other children in the Land of Guilford. No more lottery tickets for High Point children. Enough is enough.
A time for war and a time for PEACE!

High Point Central has already gotten it's Christmas present from Terry Grier. They pitched a fit and took Eastern Guilford's Graduation date so that they could have their Saturday night party, never mind that now Eastern Guilford, the forgotten county school, students are having to re-arrange their graduation plans, re-order their invitations, change flight plans, out-of town quests will no longer be able to attend graduation, to accomodate High Point Central!!!!!!
Are we ALL....INVITED??????? to the PARTY...
Once graduation dates are posted...they should remain so!! And by the way who cares if the High Point school's graduate at High Point University. I heard it was because Grier was too lazy to make the trip....

High Point Central has already been given their Christmas present. Terry Grier gave them Eastern Guilford's Graduation date with absolutely no regard for the plans that Eastern Guilford students have made since the dates were officially posted.

Frank Bones,
High Point Central has received LOTS of presents lately. You can thank Ms. Dorothy Kearns for that. Also, the receiving over there has only just begun...Eastern Guilford should be happy that the only thing stolen so far is calendar dates....it could be nice, hardworking students like those abducted from Southwest High. So, be grateful. You might want to drop this hard-working AT-LARGE school board rep. a note of thanks. You see, it started out as a plan to screw just High Point and now I see that it Ms. Kearns has enjoyed that so much that she is now including the rest of Guilford County. Welcome to the fiasco Mr. Bones.

It was the principal at Eastern Guilford who graciously traded. It seems like it was done in plenty of time for out of town people to make plans. It is only two days difference.
If you watched the last board meeting, Mr. Bones, High Point University has become too small to hold graduation there. SWH was in the Central petition to have their place switched from years of tradition of having it at the coliseum. SWH kids have gotten screwed enough. They are the only kids who did not get first choice in the lotto game. I am GLAD they got to keep their graduation in Greensboro.
Central only includes SWH when it suits their agenda like stealing SW smartest kids for their school and putting them on a long trip across town.
Only the whitest, brightest and higher income for Central. Only the best for the Central alumni!
You can call the Central PTA people who organize gradfest and complain to them.
T. Grier handled this one just fine.

Did the principal actually " graciously volunteer"? Define "volunteer".
You want to graduate in the coliseum. Fine, but
do it without pushing out someone else.
As for it being in plenty of time, out of town people that work Monday thru Friday can not attend a graduation at 6:00 on Monday night. As if no one else had plans already made for Saturday night. But we are so lucky, now we can graduate at 8:00 on Sunday morning. Whooppee!!!! Why did Eastern's time have to switch, Southwest or High Point could graduate at 8:00 on Sunday. You say he did just fine, because it is good for you, but it was not fair to the seniors at Eastern Guilford..Not by a long shot...
The times should be set back to what they originally posted for!!

Mr. Bones,
It sounds as though you have a bone to pick (sorry) with the Eastern principal. Whether it was voluntary or not, she came forth and gave up the date. Perhaps, she should be advised to consult with her parents and students before being so gracious.

It looks like someone in Greensboro is getting a taste of what being the red-headed stepchild feels like. No offense if you have read hair or have a stepparent. Now someone else gets a turn beside Southwest.

Mr. Bones (to pick):
I would just be glad your child is graduating.

Southwest parents ... as an Eastern Guilford parent I support you in your fight for a community school . Our school was like yours many years ago and those of us that attended it hate what it has become.
Come see what years of busing will do to your school. There is very little parent or student involvement. There is very little school pride left. Check out our attendance lines and explain to our students why they have to ride by Page, Grimsley, and Dudley before 1 student is dropped off. It makes it impossible for parents especially parents that are financially strapped to be involved in school and these are the students that are bused. If Deena Hayes, Amos Quick, and Walter Childs really want parental involvement for minorities they would put an immediate end to busing them from their backyards. If a child can visually see Page from his backyard, he should attend Page. It makes it impossible for students to participate in afterschool activities and for parents to keep in touch with the school. Problems in school could be easily stopped by quickly recognizing problems and stopping them before it escalates. This comes from knowing the kids and the parents and from having community schools. Some of our parents have no idea where our school is even located. Some of the students that are bused in are our top students and our students get along well during school, but several times when asked why a student is not playing football or in the band. The answer is I don't have a way to or from practice. The desire to participate is there, the students just have no choice due to no transportation.

Mr. Bones,
This is your best post ever. You DO understand. So why are the school board members you mentioned busing their own children out of their own neighborhoods. Let's see if one of them will have the courage to come out and answer this excellent question. Doesn't send much of a positive message to their own children, does it.
I would gladly trade graduation days with you instead of having the losing lottery slots for Southwest. At least Eastern students KNOW where they will be attending high school. It still doesn't make it right as you say.
We are seeing these same problems in High Point. The students that have been bused are just "there" for the day. There is no after school participation. That goes for some of the SW students who go to other schools too. They do have transporation. They want their school back, their own sports team, their own traditions. Busing for race is illegal. So why is it still going on?
