Calling all parents

I'm shamelessly using the Chalkboard to help get my job done. Hope you all don't mind. I'm working on a story about families whose children were moved to another school because of the High Point plan and might have to decide whether to move back next year. I say might have to decide because we don't know what attendance lines will look like so that could change who will have to make this decision for next year.

Know anyone who fits into this category? Are these discussions -should we stay or should we go - already going on in your homes?

Please give me a call or e-mail if you or someone you know is talking about this issue. You can reach me at 373-7064 or jfernandez@news-record.com

Thanks!

Jennifer,
The policy for HS is if you finish the 9th grade at any school, you can stay no matter what the decision about lines are.. of course, you can also transfer to whatever your home school would be. Dr Routh explained that to me when we were discussing Northern. Not sure about sibling preference.

That's true, Debora. We're trying to find some of those folks who want to transfer back to their home school (probably Southwest).

So if y'all know anyone, please have them give Jennifer a call.

Bruce,

I am taking the liberty of copying a response from today's LTE regarding the state of our schools from a former GCS teacher. Ms. Dunn is now a retired school teacher that is willing to tell it like it was and is. This appears to be validation of what many of us have been saying on this board all year.

"Bigger is not always better. When I worked for the old Guilford County School system, it was not unusual to look at the door and the superintendent would be standing there, checking things out, asking questions of the teachers such as "How are things going" "Is there anything I can do to help" Wayne Trogden was the best at keeping in touch and listening. Doug McGann was also good at that.

I never saw Weast or Grier unless it was a planned visit with some agenda. When Grier came to "discuss" the High Point Plan, all he did was tell us how it would be, and I will never forget his words to us "If the plan fails, it will be the fault of you, the faculty" His plan to make us better was to subject us to a horrible "Racial Healing" workshop. Very costly and led by a woman from Chicago and a man from Wisconsin who made it clear right off the bat that we were racists and they were going to straighten us out. Talk to some teachers who endured this.

Merger was fought by the old GCS, we lost, and so did the kids and teachers of the area."
