Make-up day information
I doubt this will generate much commentary, but GCS announced some make-up day information for schools that don't follow the traditional calendar. I figure there may be some folks out there who can use this information, so here it is:
- Greensboro Middle College: Dec. 21 (yesterday) and Jan. 4
- GTCC Middle College (Jamestown): Jan. 3 and Feb. 17
- Middle College of Entertainment Technology: Jan. 3 and Feb. 17
- Early College at Guilford: June 5 and 6
- Oak Hill Elementary: Jan.3 and 23
- Hampton Elementary: Mar. 27 and 28
- Brooks Global Elementary: Feb. 27 and June 22
- Johnson Street Global Elementary: Feb. 27 and June 22
For everyone else, the bad weather make-up days are Dec. 21 and Jan. 2.

Looks like the Chalkboard may turn into the Slateboard or the Mini Writing Tablet once the IT Plan discussions die down.
Of course there will always be test scores, redistricting debates, 2006 elections, bond referendums (or not), deals with the city, more pay increases to come at central office according to the R-know paper today. The flow of money just keeps on going and going and going....
Snow day information, spring break information, calendar information. The possibilities are endless.

What I'm hoping, WhatsNext, is that people who were drawn to The Chalkboard by the HP plan will stick with us in 2006.
Sure, the HP plan may be dead. But there are plenty of other important education issues facing Guilford County Schools and this will be the place to talk about them. I've been on this beat for nearly six years and while there are occasional lulls, it never says quiet for long.
I promise you this: we WILL have more interesting things to talk about next year than snow day make-ups!

Bruce,
Have no fear. I think the chalkboard has become a great tool for understanding school board goings-on.
In essence, you and Jennifer are doing what the school board SHOULD be doing. There is, and probably always will be, a HUGE lack of communication between the school administration and the community. The chalkboard has served us well is bridging that gap.
Although not a native to Guilford Co. I've been here long enough to know that the school system is too big and until (if ever) that changes, we definitely need a resource like the chalboard to help us investigate and understand what the heck is going on. Somehow I don't see that changing even if the "lottery" is history.
Thanks so much for being our eyes and ears and helping the community get answers that would otherwise, surely, go unanswered.

I agree.
We will still be here even after the next fight which is Neighborhood schools in HP too!
Even though we will have to be re-reassigned back to our home school still. In celebration of the Chop Plan abandonment I am renaming myself to Neighborhood!

Bruce,
You are right. Involved people will stay involved. There will be test scores to keep up with; violence in our schools hopefully going down; next years elections which should get real interesting; bond referendums; lots lies ahead.
Thank you for all that you and Jennifer do to keep us posted.
