Singapore exchange
There's a lot we can learn from educators in Singapore.
The small Asian nation arguably has the best school system in the world. In 2003, researchers gave the same math and science tests to fourth- and eighth-graders in 49 nations. Singapore's students ranked first in the world in all four categories.
This week, a group of Singaporean educators are here in Guilford County. And they say they have a lot to learn, too. Their visit was sponsored and organized by the Center for Creative Leadership, which also has an office in Singapore.
Singapore's schools are changing. They're trying offer students and parents more choices - things like magnet schools and more elective courses.

The fact that Guilford County is trying to make it look like Singaporean educators are here to COPY the GC system is enough to make me just laugh my ass off.
The Singaporean educators did visit the Early College and that is a nice program that I'm sure they could replicate but to even try to make the assumption that GC is so world-class that other nations are here to copy it just tickles my funnyASS bone!
I can just visualize their tour:
"..And here Singaporeans, here is our world-renowed School System...For starters, looky here at this list of all the new buildings we're gonna git...Uh,..... just never you mind about those bottoms ones. We had to cross off several projects cuz we're poverty stricken....It's so we can git us ONE mean, GREEN school that will house about 5,000 kids..."
Singaporeans, not really listening because their attention has been drawn to a nearby telephone pole displaying a "Wanted: New Superintendent" sign, "Ahhh, very interesting..."
"And now Singaporeans, hop on this here bus and we'll be happy to show you that World-famous school--Andrews High-- were Fantasia Barrino escaped that little thing called, READING..in fact most students are below grade level in this here school..AND-- we're quite proud to say it's the school that is NOW honored with the title "UNsafest School" in Guilford County!.."
Singaporeans: "ooohhh..., very interesting.."
"And now Esteemed Singaporean Visitors, now brace yourself for the tour of the ONLY school in ALL of Guilford County's 114 schools that LOTTERIES kids OUT of their district!!--Southwest Guilford High....uh...,and just ignore that big, festive display of opposition there across the road from the middle school, that's just some kid pranksters that don't like buses for some reason.."
Singaporeans: "Uh,....ahhh, ....very interesting."
"Now Honored Singaporeans visitors, NOW you are armed with plenty of information to take back to your country. You are now well-versed in how NOT to run a School System. And you might want to re-think that chewing gum thing. We are in the process of doing a study that shows that chewing gum in school WHILE sitting next to a white student, INCREASES tests scores! Please come back next year for an update on how that study plays out...Possibly we could do a little student-exchange...or do what we like to call a LOTTERY!... Really, you'll LOVE it, your citizens will hate it but if you just keep telling them to SHUT UP, IT'S GOOD FOR THEM...eventually they'll come around.....we think.."
Singaporeans: "Uh, oh yes, thank you Mr. Superintendent for showing us YOUR....uh....fine, yea, that's it, your "fine" system and your lenghty resume chocked full of great ideas.... And thank you so much for Chop House lunch. THAT is something we would very much like to replicate in our country.

Off the Subject, but I need to know.
The School Board took away the Bond $$$ for the projects at Ragsdale and Jamestown middle school.
There has been No Uproar from the Jamestown Community since this decision was made.
In a recent article touting Dr. Griers' latest, greatest ideas for same gendered, uniformed schools,,,I read that Leftover $$$$$ from the 300 Million Dollar Bond could be used for the implementation of these programs..
My Question is: Is there Money left over from this Bond???
Another Question: Has a deal been struck between the School Board and the Community Leaders in Jamestown????
Maybe it goes something like this..... We will Live without the new school and Renovations for now,,,,,but in return the School Board will leave Jamestown students out of the High Point Choice Plan Mix and we will support the next School Bond Referendum.
HMMMMMMM??? Another Rat begins to Smell!!!

Missing Money,
That's an interesting theory about Jamestown/Ragsdale. They do have a mayor who fights for them. They do have a school board rep who rights for them. Who knows???
One other possibility is that people are just so used to monies being moved for said purpose that they have just become numb to this. The same people figure they won't vote for any more bonds if this continues to happen.

Yeah Susieee I know what you mean. I also attended the "ceremony" and didn't have much fun. These kids were singing in my ear and this ghostly figure (no, it wasn't Smarti) was beside me all night. Gave me the heebie geebies. The worst part must have been the smell coming from Grier's house. What did he do to piss Santa off that bad?

I'd love to see pictures from this ceremony. Anybody have any?
