Redistricting forum, part two

Last night's redistricting forum is history and the school board certainly got an earful from more than 70 speakers and a High Point crowd of roughly 300.

The majority of folks once again spoke in support of neighborhood schools. The school board wants to have a decision made by the end of February.

Conclusion from last nights meeting. Not one parent, Black, white, Asian, Mexican, Emorywood, North High Point, Central, Andrews, Jamestown or Southwest wants to put their children on a bus to go from one side of the town to the other to attend school.

We are so blessed to live in this unified part of Guilford County.

I hope the School Board listen's to us ALL!

Rumor has it that Southwest High School Marching Band was paid $1500 to play in the MLK Parade in Greensboro.

Does anyone have any idea of who may have written the Check???????????????

Bruce/Jen,

Can you post information about the redistricting forum at Southern on Tuesday night. I think they said 6 to 7 p.m. I just heard briefly on the news tonight. Thank you.

Right on, General, that is the root of the whole redistricting issue. Get rid of these students.

In the last 6 six weeks Central has had cops all around the school twice: one on 12/1 and the other on 1/18 because of gang fights. It is very upsetting to see this when you drive your child to school.

I really feel if were up to the principals they would get rid of these students but the central office and Grier will keep them in school at no cost because NCLB. They don't want their numbers to look bad. It is pathetic that they would be safety above anything else.

Gil DAE,

You said it. These are PUBLIC schools. This is a public safety issue. Surely there is some law in the city that can be enforced to insure the public safety of populations in a public place.

We have public transportation provided for public forums. We must insist on public safety.

Has anyone noticed that the numbers coming out of central office on enrollment is incorrect? They state that Southwest MIddle school has only 715 student but GCS website states 1078.

What is the real number???????? How can they possibly know demographics when they can't get the enrollment correct for some schools????

The numbers change daily, even by the hour from what I've been told. It depends on which set of numbers they are looking at. Northern's lines changed slightly, but the numbers changed significantly.

Their numbers were WAY OFF for Andrews. It depends if they are using "state capacity" that day or actually what is at the school. Must depend on who is doing the asking. Maybe it depends on if there is a full moon that night.

Maybe they should just go in and do a headcount of who is there one day and count the absences.
