Southern forum rescheduled

The redistricting forum scheduled for tomorrow night at Southern High School has been rescheduled.

The forum will take place next Monday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. The forum will be on a proposal to combine the attendance zones at Southern Elementary and Sumner Elementary.

Southern would serve grades K-1, while Sumner would serve grades 2-5, similar to the arrangement between Laughlin Primary and Summerfield Elementary in the Summerfield area.

Bruce,
I think they are saying k-2 and 3-5. Laughlin/Summerfield is k-1, 2-5. The first would be better since its more widely accepted as primary/elementary separations.

Well, both the GCS Web site and a press release I received earlier today says the proposal is for Southern to be K-1 and Sumner to be 2-5, just like the Laughlin/Summerfield grade structure.

Going K-2/3-5 might defeat the purpose for doing this, which is that Southern is running out of room, while Sumner (which used to be a community high school) has some elbow room.

But I guess that's something that parents could address at the forum.

I must be mistaken, thought that was what I heard at the forum. If they are running out of room at one school, then that makes sense. For once, maybe the BOE is planning ahead. Save over $60,000 per 'mobile'

These K-1 / 2-5 schools sound like something that might work IF THEY HAVE COMMUNITY BUY IN! Although I'm not affected by the decision, I may attend the forum just to listen and observe. I would love to see this BOE start LISTENING to the people and then maybe start to serve the children of Guilford County and stop fighting with the parents. Wouldn't it be nice to watch one board meeting when they discussed education.

NOW THAT IS A GREAT IDEA

EDUCATION!

WOW WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT

A BOARD OF EDUCATION ACTUALLY DISCUSSING EDUCATION

NO MORE FIGHTING WITH THE PARENTS

WHAT WILL WE DO FOR ENTERTAINMENT?

WOW,

We may have to get a life, and as for me personally, (brace yourself) maybe even a JOB!
