Redistricting reaction
It seems some people opposed to Tuesday's redistricting vote are showing their displeasure in public.
Of course, this redistricting protest shouldn't be a surprise to anyone here!

Yikes I just got a mass e-mail with 100's of names on it instructing my family to boycott the Mall-side of Centennial Street. Let me see if our family can comply....
Oh no I can't go to Alex's House anymore on the weekends for breakfast. No wait NHP has a Tex & Shirley's now, complete with omelet maker.
Can't go to Jimmy's Pizza House??? Well I'll be 48 in May, I guess I need to stop going by one of my favorite college days dives anyway.
The bowling alley on N Main; that's a problem with my daughter's bowling league. Well I doubt Dot & Susan hangout there before Noon on Saturday's since the bar isn't open during youth leagues.
Stay off Rotary Drive? Now that's a problem because it's the quick cut through to High Point Christian every morning. Well I'll just make sure the car is full of gas so I don't need to buy any over there.
I don't step foot in WalMart anyway so I don't need that. I pass a Home Depot, Lowes, PetsMart and Staples everyday going back and forth to work. I shop for clothes over at Friendly Center on my lunch hour.
Closer to home we've got a Harris Teeter, Hams, and the brand new movie theater. Shoot they even opened up a Brewsters Icecream last week just like the one over in Upper Hooterville.
Let's see there are firetrucks and emergency vehicles closeby since violence will be on the rise on SWHS. Emergency care facilities are handy for stitching the kids up from after the fights. I think we've got it covered.
Go ahead and plow under Main Street in High Point from Eastchester clear on down to Archdale.

Moving a child from Guilford Cult Schools to private is the biggest piece of mind. Note to anyone considering it, there are scholarships available at some private schools.
I would do whatever it takes if you are considering a switch to private. I've considered standing at Bridford and Wendover with a cardboard sign begging for donations.
This mom will sell herself on Tipton Street if she has to...that would be more ethical than what the School board has done.

I think it's great that the majority of North High Pointers affected by this decision can pursue private school options for their children.
The parents in the Parkview area probably don't have that same luxury. The very kids that Voting Block of 6 purports to help are the very kids that will suffer the most.

Sally you better keep your butt off the corner of my place of business. I'm calling my pimp Walter right now.

Reuters is reporting that a deranged woman named Dorothy Kearns is in a plane heading to Torino, Italy.
It appears Ms. Kearns was notified that a graduate of the Guilford County School system would be carrying the flag of the United States of America in front of the entire world on Sunday.
Uttering the words "over my dead body" she draped herself in the "Hammer & Sickle" and was last reported over international airspace.

I agree with the boycott but the "Alex's House" restaurant is owned by a family in the "White's Mill" area.. they just got Grier-ended and could use our support.
I say we all go eat there this weekend. They have GREAT pancakes and a GYRO that'll make you think you're in Athens.
LOVE that family

I was just there last night myself. Our ranks have swelled so much that the General had not informed me about new membership in the militia.
You're right, Alex's House is spared, knock the tatoo parlor down for additional parking. Whew, that will make my father feel better too.
I'm trying to figure out how to salvage Jimmy's Pizza House as well.

Buck- I was laughing so hard you almost made me pee my pants. Just the vision of the Kearn-al stomping to the plane is enough to throw me to the floor. Good one!

Buck,
I got that same e-mail. The boycott is officially on but where do we get our tattoos?
and thank God for Brewsters. That one would be tough to boycott. We can treat Bruce and his wife to banana splits

We've let a lot of comments slide the past few months, thinking that you all would self-police yourselves. Some of you have, some of you haven't.
You may have noticed some comments have disappeared from the Chalkboard. I deleted them. I talked to my boss about this to make sure it was all right. This is why I deleted the posts:
*They were derogatory to average citizens who were named, or easily identifiable
*They used profanity
I really hate having to spend the extra time to police the blog for these comments, which have no place here anyway.
Private citizens are not fair game for saying whatever you want about them. Public and elected figures, such as the superintendent and school board, are a different matter all together. Say what you want about them. However ...
I will delete profanity (or attempts to disguise profanity) as I come across it - that includes sign on names.
Just wanted to give you a heads up to the new rules. I've gone back only through the past few strands to clean them out. If I missed a post, let me know. I'll delete it. The new rules apply from here on out.
I want you all to continue debating the issues. There are some good discussions going on at the Chalkboard. But we don't need profanity to make a point. And we don't need to drag an average citizen's name through the mud.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Stevie, I wish you had eyes man so you could see. Actually maybe it's better you don't.
In old Greensboro they just shift funds from bond projects to build a new building. At Smith just build a building to separate the Blacks and Hispanics. They just segregate by setting up another program in another building. It is so simple.
In old High Point they bus out what they don't want. It's too close to their elite IB Program.
Spend it on buses. Spend it on new buildings not in the budget. It is all the same.
Dudley definitely needs some diversity. How in the world can these students learn without it. See last school board meeting. This is what education is all about. Learning how to emulate other white children. Reach for the good life. That seemed to be the message of the night.

You mean you weren't moved to tears by Susan Mendenhall's explanation of why High Point is different??
Susan was trying to cry, but alas no tears could come out. Next time she needs to take second bite out of that onion.
Posted on February 25, 2006 8:17 PM
Here's what I don't understand about what Susan was saying - she tried to say that High Point was different because it is in the corner of the county.
Well, isn't Northwest in the corner of the county?
Isn't Southeast in the corner of the county?
Isn't Northeast in the corner of the county?
I still don't see how High Point is any different.

It's different because Susie and Dottie live in Emorywood. Mayor Becky and her pals are alumni of Central. NW, SE, NE don't have their alma mater and rich furniture friends to look out for.
NW, SE, NE don't have High Point "leaders". They can control and shift out the "leftovers" to different corners of High Point. Central becomes brighter and whiter.
