Think globally, educator says

Sam Houston, a longtime educator who advocates for more science, math and technology education, recently talked to Guilford County leaders about how to better prepare students.

In case you missed the 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting, here's his slide presentation. (You need Powerpoint to read this.)

What do you think of what Houston has to say about thinking globally and preparing students better for high-skilled jobs?

If the focus is on Math, Science and Technology why did they put an Arts magnet at SWH and spend all that money. We know why. See detailed letter on other strand.

Think globally???

In this town, there is only one reality. Welcome to Dot World.

In Dot World, you've become nothing more than a vessel, a bag of flesh and bone, of no consequence or meaning, other than to "save" Dot World.

Mothers-your only duty is to bear the "right kind" of children to save Dot World.

Fathers-Your duty-to work hard to pay your taxes to pay for Dot World. Or to sell your home, paying your 10% commision to the realtor minions of Dot World.

Dot World without end, amen.

People surviving amidst the absolute insanity of a public servant gone mad. How do they do it?

Just another mystery of...THE TWILIGHT ZONE

The slide in the power point with the German Shepards and the cat reminds me of Dot and the NHP dogs. She flips her big butt at us just like the cat in the picture is doing to the dogs!

Our kids can't read, write or do basic math. This presentation is a joke for Hell Point kids. Bfore you can run, you must be able to walk. We're so crippled by this school system, WE'RE CRAWLING!!!!!!!!!!!

While reviewing Martin P's letter to the editot, I found an awesome link posted by one of the commentors. It's

Cut and paste. You can then send an anonomous lead to the state auditors office. If you believe that Grier and Co are using our tax dollars in an inappropriate/deceitful manner, let the state know. Perhaps they can see the pea hiddden under all of Grier's shells!

Jennifer,

Nice reporting in today's N&R. Please post the article on the CB or at least a link to make it easier for all to read.

Not as subtle as Walter driving the bus with the Parkview kids on it (Front cover Rhino 3/9/06) but still a great piece of work Jennifer.

Did you say Ootsie was driving backwards again or was that Walter and the Magic School Bus driving backwards down Southwest Road?

Heard Lisa S absolutely loved the bus.

Does thinking globally meaning studying and striving to compete in a world of dictators who would threaten and negate our existence in favor of their own crazed value sytems and agendas? Who would take what somebody else has and throw it away like yesterday's N&R, because it doesn't square with their personal world view.

You really have to watch those foreigners.

After reading the N&R article in todays' paper,,,It reaffirms my belief that the Poor Minorities in High Point are being oppressed by their own so called Leaders....

The People interviewed in this article were blind-sided with the recent decision by our school board to ship their children to Southwest Schools...

According to the Alstons,,,Childs and Kearns,,,,
The "Poor Minorities" wanted to be Bused to the north side of High Point to attend school,,,,,

According to the "Poor Minorites" themselves,,,,they DO NOT WANT TO BE BUSED TO SOUTHWEST.....

This is one more example of the Elite Socialist Leadership in High Point abusing those who are in the most need (kind of reminds you of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton,ETC.).

NOTE: I mean no disrespect in using the label, "Poor Minorities"...

This is the label that the Socialist Movement in High Point chooses for a certain segment of our Population,,,I personally hope that one day these people can escape the grasp of the "Dot Kearns Syndrome"....Then and only then will they be able to get a Realistic Education that will enable them to become self sufficient citizens.

All People of High Point need to rise up and rebel, and remove the Ignorant Leadership that is well on its' way to totally destroying Public Education.

Dr. Grier has all the answers. At a recent board meeting he was questtioned about transportation to suburban and rural schools for those who depend on public transportation.

His response was, "they can get there the same way they get to the grocery store". Not really, Terry. The bus runs to the local grocer, but not way out to Southwest or Eastern. What I heard was "let them eat cake".

Where was the representation for the poor on our school board? The School Board is guilty of Institutional discrimination. They were guilty of it when they hired Grier over a highly qualified, experienced African-American female and they are guilty of it now.

Vive le revolution!

C Boy,

THAT'S IT! I thought it was something like global warming and destruction. But remember that letter in the High Point Enterprises a few weeks ago. That Debbie woman at Central wanted no elections for school board members. It read "I think it is time to have an appointed school board rather than elected, then public opinion...."

A dictatorship. Now that is thinking globally!

More depressing news. Did we read today that North Carolina is number 48 in the country for people that can't read? Fantasia was right after all.

Institutional Racism is alive and well in High Point. Where was the representation for the poor children of High Point? NAACP of High Point what say you???

Just read their stationery. Look who their officers are. There is a story to be told here.

I really like the idea that the students don't do well in high school because they can't read. Immediately that Judge Manning said that maybe Smith and Dudly needed to be taken over by the state--new principals, new teachers, etc.--than the focus became how teachers haven't been doing their job. I say, give each student in each high school a reading test to assess actual reading level; then maybe we'll see how the system has allowed students who can't read to move along and arrive in high school. Most high school teachers can teach students who can read how to read history, sonnets, chemistry or whatever; they are not trained to teach student to read at all--that's what elementary teachers are trained to do.

I found it interesting Dot and Walter's comments about getting local churches involved in the transportation of kid's and their parents. Wouldn't their time be better spent tutoring and mentoring instead of transporting?

Judge Judy said:

Imagine the sense of betrayal that these Parkview people must feel, to have a few politically active wackos decide they should be moved right out of the blue. I mean the n. High Point people have been dealing with this crap for two years and it was done by people seen as external to the SW community. These people have been totally bushwahacked out of the blue by their own friends or parents of classmates and their own schoolboard rep (Walter may become as deeply loved in Parkview as Mendenhall is in nHP.) Just dumped out of a school without warning for the Alstons politics. I would wager not a single Parkview parent wanted to get shipped. All in the name of the BIG SCAM.

There will be a reckoning for this.
