Please standby ...

The education team (that'd be me) is in Charlotte today and Thursday following the superintendent search there.

We (that'd be me) don't expect to file anything online during that time since we (yep, me again) will be following around GCS Superintendent Terry Grier from about 8 am. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and again Thursday morning as he makes his bid for the superintendent's post at Charlotte. We're planning a couple of stories to run Thursday and Friday, along with one that ran today giving a brief glimpse at Grier's chances to get the job.

So, please be patient and stand by ...

Are Dot Kearns and Kris Cooke holding onto both his ankles crying "don't go Terry, don't go."

Did he pack light or does Charlotte need his immediate attention and the good Dr. will have to start at say 8AM on Friday?

Numbersgame said:

Do you think Grier would be surprised to find a few of his "friends" in attendance this evening to ask questions???

Riverboat Bob said:

All of you are pitiful.

Dr. Grier deserves better than this rabble of segregationists. Dr. Grier's enlightened approach to educating our kids is too difficult to be grasped by most of these country type people in our community.

I heard he's been received quite well.

Bob,

I don't think so. I received an email from a friend that is a parent in Charlotte and this is his comments about Grier's candidacy:

"Down here, I’ve nothing but bad things about him. Too slick… very political. I’d be shocked if he were hired."

Looks like they have the good doctor pegged pretty good. He's toast. The majority of the board there is stacked for Haithcock, the others are fighting for Gorman. Grier is just the standby in case the others refuse the job. I'm sure that Grier would like to have the job that he aplliede for, but his chances are nil. He is to well-known.

Bob,

On the other hand, you are right. The people of Guilford County don't deserve someone as gifted an educator as Terry Grier is. He's done a wonderful job of building our schools, raising the acadmeic achievement, and healing divisions across the greater community that is the county. We, the unwashed don't deserve to keep him because we don't properly appreciate him. It's time to let him go to the reward that he deserves in Charlotte. I understand the wolves are already snarling and drolling for some fresh red meat.

Riverboat Bob said:

Stormy,

You are truly one of the enlightened ones.

Your acknowledgement of Dr. Grier's victories gives me hope that in case Dr. Grier refuses the position in Charlotte that we'll all come together as a community and build on the accomplishments Dr. Grier has begun and continues to provide to us.

Get back on and take Grier with you said:

Did Bob just get off the boat?

DOWNTHERIVER said:

Riverboat Bobby, you have been sold up the river by Grier it seems. Please enlighten us on his accomplishments. We will be most willing to challenge any of them with real facts.

The only accomplishments we know are.

SAT scores for the county down.
Test scores for the county down.
Dudley,Andrews,Central and Smith down over the last five years. Andrews past 35% of its children last year.

Come on Bob. Tell us what you think his accomplishments are.

Joe R. Stafford said:

Dr. Grier seems to be a long shot for the job now. For him to emerge the winner, somebody will have to stumble. However, he may be laying the groundwork for getting another big job that may open up.

Stormy said:

Joe,

Grier isn't even a long shot. This job will be awarded by political action of the board., likely Haithcock, which the board majority favors, even though she is not qualified. If anything should happen there, Gorman would get the job. Terry Grier is only there because they had to have three candidates to present. Terry Grier will, however, leverage this job application into a nice "incentive" package here in good ole Guilford. Members of the school board are already scrambling around soliticing those "incentives" from local businesses to retain our national treasure.

One lady from Charlotte interviewed on Fox 8 called Grier Dr. Grief ( she used to work for him somewhere).

He also said that he got blamed for the boards redistricting plans in GC. He had to explain the car magnets.

What a load of unowhat.

Buckmtn said:

Oh joy, Dr. Grief is staying.

More later as the N&R likes to say.

debora said:

Dr. Grier has withdrawn his name from Charlotte

Jay said:

I think he "withdrew" before they had a chance to turn him down. "Moral obligation to stay" my behind! Oh well, at least Dot and Kris can go back to sleep now.
