Did you ever find out what happened to the 201 missing Central students? Where did they go?
Posted on September 12, 2006 11:15 PM
That just proves children need to be bused to Wiley, Vandalia and Washington to help relieve overcrowding. What is good for High Point is good for Greensboro.

Stormy,
They are on an extended culinary field trip at Johnson and Wales. A new grant just came in to pay for it. The rest will be funded with lottery ticket money that "might" come in.

I see today that GCS approved adding a second culinary arts lab at Central. Now, how many students are actually enroled in that program? Are there so many that we need another lab (cafeteria)? Is there any hope that the county commissioners will take a sober approach to this matter when it is presented to them, or is that too much to ask? I see that Deena was anxious to spend the extra millions. Any bets on who will be getting the construction projects?

Mama,
Yes, I think that we'll see Deena's renewed calls for more wiring business to be sent to minority contractors and forget the bid nonsense. Forget, a new pair of shoes, her Lexus is getting a little dirty and needs to be replaced.

Don't go getting all uppity about Deena Hayes. She is just betta at feedin from the trough than the rest of the pigs out here. Nothin wrong with using skin color to get the better of others, it ain't descriminatin afta all.
It may even be betta than the good ole boys way and we promote innovation in this country don't we? She might be called a racist by many, but she's doin nothin that others haven't done before her. So ethics are a bit screwed up, doesn't mean she isn't takin care of her own now does it?

Somebody removed my post!!

Mama,
Yes, they did. It was right before my post responding to yours. Hum, do you think that Morgan or Jennifer is practicing censorship? What was in it was mild compared to the chaos that is allowed over at the Letters to the Editor.
Posted on September 13, 2006 5:38 PM
You're right Stormy. And all I did was refer to Deena's significant other as her XXXXXXXX XXXXXXX. The content was clean.
Posted on September 13, 2006 6:12 PM
It makes one wonder what the censorship standards are here at the CB.

Figures taken from the 10 day GCS enrollment numbers show that The High Point redistricting Map C was a total disaster.
Andrews should of been 68% Non-White this year with map C. In fact it is at 81% which is UP (yes UP) 2% from last year.
Another interesting statistic is that even though Guilford County enrollment has increased about 2,5% High Point has decreased about 5.5% (What??)
All of this is clear confirmation that the School Board's destruction plan of schools in High Point is right on track.
You better believe it!

Stormy, mama, et al.
I removed posts that had sexual content in them and edited out swear words. I've asked before that we maintain a semblance of civility here. When that starts to slide, I'll delete posts or ban you. Don't act like this is new. We've repeatedly warned folks since the swearing and sex talk started showing up.
If you have an argument to make, do it in an adult fashion. Folks on the Chalkboard have made it clear that they won't tolerate swearing and bad behaviour in children in the schools. How many times here have you all advocated that kids who can't behave should be kicked out, suspended, sent to an alternative school?
What makes adults - who should know better - be treated any differently?
I let some stuff slide, hoping you'd get yourselves in line. That didn't happen so I deleted posts.
The idea behind this blog was to start conversations with the community about education. I don't see how swearing or sexual innuendos advance any discussion on education.

This decline in High Point comes after the same decline last year. We have not only alienated families, we have forced them out of a system they pay for. It also leaves 2 questions in my mind.
1. Were there over 700 racists in High Point who opted out like many have suggested?
2. Were there over 700 kids who were on track to graduate and contribute to our schools success, but whose parents worried about the quality of education and safety of the environment as well as the drugs and gangs?
Another related question I have is, how we can have hundreds (almost a thousand) new homes being built in High Point and none of them have school age kids? How can enrollment decrease in a High Growth area with many 4 and 5 bedroom homes? As an entrepreneur I am tempted to build a large High School and Middle School in North High Point and make it rich. Advertising and promotion prepaid by our School Board.
Is it possible that we have lost many more kids than we think? It is not only possible, but highly probable. Yet while High Point burns our city council fiddles.

Jennifer,
Thanks for agreeing that the school thugs need to be thrown out, or "banned", to use your blogging lingo.
It's too bad that our school board does not agree.
The swearing and sexual innuendos in a post don't bother me. It's usually just describing what is really going on over on Eugene St. What bothers me more is POO that is going on with these administrators. THEY need to be banned NOW!
Jennifer, can you please ban Marti Sykes, Dot Kearns, Susan Mendenhall, Kris Cooke, Walter Childs, Deena Hayes and Amos Quick?
The entire county would be forever grateful.

banned aid,
If school board members start cursing, talking about sex and acting like children on this blog, then I will ban them from this blog.
Posted on September 14, 2006 4:29 PM
Jennifer, dont you wonder where all the children have disappeared to in High Point?
Why dont you investigate and do a story?
Posted on September 14, 2006 10:28 PM
Jennifer,
where are the numbers with the 10 day enrollment for Andrews????? are they that bad that they can't be published/released????
how about the total enrollment numbers for Hiugh point schools? GCS is quick to mention that toal enrollment is up, but what are the entrollment numbers for the HP schools????
Posted on September 15, 2006 6:47 AM
Mikeg,
I posted enrollment figures for all of GCS schools for 05-06 and 06-07 in this thread. Click on the links up above and you can check out the numbers.

There is a rumor going around town that the former owner of the new Smith building is a personal friend of someone in a position of power in Guilford County Schools.
Something stinks? Is it Poo?

rumormonger,
I'd be interested in hearing your info. E-mail me or give me a call at 373-7064. Thanks.

How many of us told the Board that with this redistricting plan that people would put their children in private schools or home school them???!!! I would like to know the % increase in the HP private schools.......if anyone wants to know wherethe students went, just call the private schools.........they're there!!!!
