State makes math tests harder

The state Board of Education said it would make math tests in grades 3-8 harder and now it has.

The board voted Thursday to change the standards. What that means is students must answer more questions correctly in order to pass. And the state will use outside tests, such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (aka The Nation's Report Card), to monitor their own.

So how does this affect you? Fewer students will pass the state tests in grades 3-8. Local schools are being sent software to analyze their scores and determine their passing rates. The state expects to release district-by-district data Nov. 1.

While it's unlikely districts would "retain" students at this point - kids will be in their third month of school by the time the results are released - schools might have to ramp up their tutoring/remediation programs.

We don't have Guilford's data, but here's a good indicator of things to come: The state passing rate dropped from about 90 percent in fourth-grade to not quite 66 percent.

I guess the message from Raleigh is clear:

Don't do so well on the Math EOG so the test won't get harder.

Okay, I see no one wants to talk about it so I guess I'll have to....

President Bush is visiting a school in Guilford County. He'll waltz in and shake Grier's hand and say "Fine job you're doing here."....then I'm going to THROW UP!!

Is Grier really going to stand there and take credit for a majority minority school doing well?????

This goes AGAINST EVERTHING that he said could happen. He's told us for over two years now that kids had to be bussed and redistricted in order to learn!--but yet he'll take all the credit for Faulkner's successes and make it look like here in Guilford county we teach our kids right where they live!

Grier better have the balls to say, "Uh, one thing Mr. Bush...Uh, there's these other skewls in Gifford County that ain't doing so well. THe kids are just dummer over in High Point and we have to bus and redistricted them several times a year just to get those stupid NCLB numbers lookin' good fer you."

Will he have the backbone to tell the truth?? No he won't and we all know it. I have half a mind to show up at Faulkner and show Bush the famous Map C3Star!! Better yet, I'll invite him to come to Andrews, home of the worst school in the STATE!!!!!!! Maybe Fantasia can be there and sing him the blues!

What a freakin' JOKE that we pretend that we are educating kids in GC!!!!!! I hope Bush is ready for a good laugh.

Let's stage a rally at Faulkner to make sure Grier has to tell it like it is. I think I still have 100 Get Terry Grier Outta Here signs.

Rally, remember what Dr. Grief said over the summer....

If it makes a person feel better to put up a Dr. Grier sign, put up to....

It's what I do. Sometimes for a little variety I'll mix a Grier magnet with my Susan Mendenhall magnet.

Buckmtn, I think you're right!! He did say that. With his blessing, I will put up all that I have.
