Eastern principal resigns

Eastern will start next year in temporary classrooms with a new principal. Lisa Cooke announced her resignation Monday as district officials simultaneously announced that Travis Reeves would lead the school next year. Reeves, a 12-year education veteran, most recently served as principal of East Montgomery High School in Biscoe.

If you missed it, police reporter Eric Townsend wrote a detailed story Sunday about the day of the Nov. 1 fire that destroyed the school. He spent months interviewing students, school employees and firefighters to try to recreate the path of the fire. Investigators still haven't charged anyone in the intentionally-set blaze.

Jennifer, I am frustrated that you closed the discussion on the fall EOC scores. I had posted some interesting numbers the other day and the post was not allowed. Then the whole strand gets taken over by people who are not interested in talking about Education.
But, in line with this strand it was interesting to note that Easterns fall EOC drop was one of the worst of our schools. Perhaps its to be expected considering the circumstances.

God Bless Lisa Cooke. I wish her well. She certainly has had a full plate this past year.

thank you

statman,

I'm not sure why your post wasn't allowed. Did you answer the "challenge" question? I know the system won't let you post now unless you answer that. It shows up right under the comment box before you hit the "post" button.

If you still have trouble posting, send me the info in an e-mail and I can post it for you.

If anyone else has trouble posting, either call or e-mail me. We've been upgrading this blog system and have had some problems. I didn't know it was affecting you guys, too. Sorry about that.

Jennifer,

The biggest problem that some of us have seen, myself included, is that occasionally when one makes a posting, the system says that your post is being reviewed. The problem is that the post never gets posted and disappears into cyberspace Is that a system problem?

Yeds, we know about the challenge question, that is not the problem.

Jennifer,
happened to me too. Post needs to be reviewed.

Ditto.

Stormy, Debora,

I had the same problem a couple of days ago trying to post an e-mail comment to Inside Scoop. The other reporter also couldn't post a comment. I'll let our tech guys know this is still cropping up.

Has it happened recently to either of you, or anyone else?

Tomorrow night at 6:00pm, the BOE will name the Reedy Fork area elementary school. Starmount wants to name it Reedy Fork Elementary School. Others want to name it after Ronald McNair. Ronald McNair is a outstanding role model for young children. He could do science and math. He had a great interest in education. He graduated magna cum laude from A & T and got a Phd in Laser Physics from MIT. If you want an inspirational name like Ronald McNair, you need to be a the meeting tomorrow. If there is not a big crowd, we find that we have a name that is geared toward selling houses instead of encouraging a young boys and girls to pursue science and math in school. Pls come out and help get a decent name for this new school.

Jennifer,

I had the same problem the other day too, several times. It would say your post is being reviewed then it just never appeared. It wasn't anything derogatory.

I just gave up trying to post.

A man is trying a very unusual way to propose to his girlfriend. He wants people to forward an email to as many people as possible and he hopes that it will eventually get to his girlfriend. Details here: http://www.proposal-to-mary.com

Here is what he wants people to send by email:

You could help me a lot to spread my proposal to Mary – it is important that it is distributed as widely as possible so that it eventually reaches Mary. If you would like to support my proposal to Mary, please send the following text by email to a lot of people :-)

------------- SNIP (email text end) ---------------

WHEN YOU RECEIVE THIS, PLEASE HELP TO DISTRIBUTE IT TO OTHER PEOPLE!

For a long time I have tried to find a special way to propose marriage to my girlfriend Mary, whom I know for five years now. I wanted it very special, romantic and memorable, something our grandchildren would still remember.

And here is my idea: I will send out the proposal to Mary to 50 complete strangers, people I don't know - hoping, that they will forward my proposal to as many people as possible, which in turn forward it etc. And some day, I hope, it will reach Mary, after it has travelled a very long way. I know, it will take a long time and I am quite nervous…

From the poem MY Mary will know immediately that the proposal is for her.

I have created a homepage ( http://www.proposal-to-mary.com ) where you can find the current status of my quest. You can use the homepage to check if the proposal has already reached Mary (in that case it is not necessary anymore to forward the mail).

Once the proposal has reached Mary, I will put a note on these pages. Also I will publish there how many people have read the proposal so that everybody can see how far it has spread and that it is getting closer to Mary.

And of course you will find there what I am waiting for most: Mary's answer! I can't tell you, how nervous I am… Will she accept my proposal? Will she like the unusual way how she got it, through the hands of thousands of messengers all over the world?

Please cross your fingers for me! And please - help me by sending the mail to as many people as possible, to help it spread, so that it eventually reaches Mary.

And here is my proposal:

Mary, please forgive me, as you know English is not my native language. And I am not a poet. But I mean it from my heart.

My angel,

Five years ago, I will always remember the day When fate made us meet, blissful Alaskan moments in May Earth spun around us and a journey began Love, warmth, happiness, enough the years to span.

The longer it lasts the more grows our bond And with 80 still - of you I will be fond Whatever happens, I will stay at your side Through good and bad, together let us stride

No second with you was ever wasted
You are the sweetest I have ever tasted
We have spent so many years - why not a life?
Mary, will you marry me - and become my wife?

Mary, if you have received that and have recognized me, then give me a sign so that I can continue with the romantic part of my proposal…
