Northern Middle rumors dispelled

FYI: A parent e-mailed me this week about rumors that Northern Middle might need to drill a third well and need trailers this upcoming school year. I figured other parents may have heard this, so I asked Dave Burnett, district facilities director, about the rumors.

He e-mailed me back, saying:

"Rumor #1 - There has been absolutely no talk of drilling a 3rd well. Well #2 was checked out previously and is currently being developed. We hope it and all supporting work will be complete in the next 2 weeks.

"Rumor #2 - There are no plans to provide mobile classrooms to NMS for the 07/08 school year. The projections and recent tracking of registrations indicate sufficient capacity for this school year. However, we are developing plans to add a temporary unit to support high school student athletes that may be using the high school fields this fall and prior to the completion of the new high school. Perhaps this is the origin of this rumor."

Hope that helps.

If the Guilford County schools need a well drilled they're in luck because one of the County Commissioners knows how to drill a well.

Just ask Skip, Bruce, and Carolyn; they got drilled all the way down to China last night. Skip kept babbling about 6 Gangstas or the Gangster 6 or I don't know it might have been the Jackson 5.

You know ever since Skip was screaming that Billy Yow runs the county I feel a whole lot better.

Eastern had better be built...and quickly!!

Has anyone else taken a look at the trailers that they are putting these students into? If the same type of storm hits the school that tore the roof off a few years ago, we are going to have a "real tragedy" like Guilford County has never witnessed.

The modular units are supposedly supposed to withstand strong winds. They are definitely stronger than the many trailers we now have scattered throughout Guilford County. Isn't there a school close by, Eastern Middle? for the tornado drill or evacuation plan? I thought I heard one of the board members mention this.

Supposedly the schools don't need the bond ref to rebuild Eastern.

Windy,

The trailers will be tied down which means they
will not blown off of their foundations in hurricane force winds. There is nothing to keep the top of them from being stripped to shreds like the trees that are still standing across the street from the last storm.

You need to see for yourself how ignorant it is to even think you could get 1000 kids to the middle school with the amount of advance notice that we receive here. They might could have done it they had not built a 100 foot deep ravine between the two.

It is funny that such a deep ditch has been built.
Last year my response to where will the kids go in case of a weather emergency and my answer was...
"they better dig a deep ditch so they can jump in it"... they did!!

I wish you could see the installation at Eastern. It seems that the tie down straps are about every 12 inches. I have never seen so many straps for a modular. A tornado may cause the buildings to explode but I would bet a lot of dollars that they will not blow away.
