District takes no position on "Black Thursday"
Apparently there are some rumors going around about whether Guilford County Schools are supporting/not supporting participation in the Black Thursday events today. So far, the district is only saying it will leave it up to principals to enforce standard mode of dress rules.
Do you know of any schools with large participation from students today?

Ah yes, a black Thursday lead by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. How did that work out a year and half ago when those two got behind things over in Durham?

My baby brother, a little white boy, was attacked at school when he was in 10th grade by 4 other white boys. This happened in Haltom City, Texas, a suburb of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas.
My brother was hospitalized because he was almost killed. He suffered head and face injuries that required that he have several steel plates put in his face to hold his jaw in place with his skull, his eye orbit, (which is the bone that surrounds the eye) was damaged and had to be attached with screws and steel plates to the rest of his face. His nose was crushed and had to be re-built with pieces of his ears.
My little brother, who is now about 30-ish years old still has some post traumatic stress issues that come up.
So what happened to the white kids that attacked him? NOTHING! Nothing at all. The attorneys presented the evidence and the injuries were severe and clear, and the kids got nothing as far as punishment for almost killing my little brother, and for damaging him physically, emotionally and mentally forever. He still has the physical scars, he still has plates in his face, he still has panic attacks for certain reasons... and the white kids that attacked him just went right on with their lives.
So let's be real about what is really up with our cultural and racial consiousness.
We have alot of work to do.
What happened to the kids in Jena 6 is wrong, but all too common.

I would like to understand exactly what A&T and Bennet college are supporting by supporting Jena 6....
Free Jena 6....?????
I don't know the details and I don't think they have been addressed, but if six people assaulted
one person..... should those six become national heros???
These are not quiet protestors sitting at a Woolworth counter....
SIX people assaulted one person....
Black or white the SIX should be punished......just punishment...second degreee attempted murder....????
Depends on the degree of the assault....I would say six on one is a high enough degree!!
If it was my child....I wouldn't have a problem with it....
If it were six of the same race on one of the same race.....they would have never made national news and
would be serving their time...
.Maybe....I just wish the leaders at A&T and Bennet would get as
irrate and actively involved about the young black men in their OWN back yards Murdering each other!!!!!
Five young black men were murdered in the streets of Greensboro this summer ... probably by other black men....
Where were A& T and Bennet college students then??????
I guess we did not have a Rev. Sharpton stirring up emotion for these five young men......They had futures too!!!!
What about the gangs that we are dealing with in and around the A&T campus and the Bennet college campus??
.......Priorities????
Six on one......they could have killed that kid easily!!!
I just wish the black community cared as much about the young black men..that are murdering each other......
I wish the black community cared as much about the young black men that go to school in fear of getting a beat down into
the Crypts or the bloods.
I wish the black community cared as much about the young black men that are dropping out of school and are going hungry
in our high schools.
I am white and I would wear black for a month to show my concern for that!!!
Jena 6....just doesn't deserve the attention.....what they did was wrong and it sets a very poor example to make them heroes.
The schools should not allow support of this and allow this type of disruption in our schools.

I think the issue is that the student that was injured received very minor injuries and was back at school events that evening. Attempted 2nd Degree Murder was a ridiculous charge. The injuried party had picked on the other student repeatedly.
It wasn't right by any means, but it wasn't worthy of the charge. Assault perhaps. There is alot of info on the net, just search Jenna 6

Sorry, I don't think it was attempted 2nd murder, my mistake.

Debora,
Have you seen pictures of the injured boy? Pretty bad. It was reported that he suffered a concussion as well. As Terrina pointed-out, a beat-down like that by a gang of six can be very devastating. The boy is fortunate that it wasn't worse, or the Jena 6 wouldn't have been charged with "attempted" murder.
Having said that, such a charge probably was too aggressive, but the Jena 6 are not civil rights heroes. They should have been charged with assault, and received appropriate punishment. What I understand you to say is that since the injured boy had picked-on one of the Jena 6, he deserved a serious beat-down?
Further, it hasn't been reported that the beat-down had anything to do with the nooses in the tree. Without national news exploitation of this event, we likely wouldn't be seeing nooses in the trees at Andrews.

I don't think ANYONE should beat on another human being, but from what I read there was a not of implied threats both ways and eventually escaleted entirely too far. The school should have stopped the "all white tree" and done some pro-active racial talks before it went this far. I also didn't say that they should be civil rights heros, but in my heart I think that the charges were that harsh because it was a black on white crime more than the seriousness of the injuries.

Terrina,
What's your point that you posted 3 times? Are you saying the Jena 6 should be punished or not.
Sorry about your baby brother. That is very tragic.
We have children every day at various school in Guilford County who are beat up. We have teachers who are assaulted verbally or physically all the time. What's being done to those doing the beatings and assaults? These students are put right back in the same classrooms.
What's the point of spending millions on new, modern green schools if Guilford County Schools can't even acknowledge the black and white issues? Children should never have to be afraid to go to school. Neither should our teachers.
