Becoats and Ozment out of superintendent candidacy pool
I checked in with school board attorney Jill Wilson today about the status of the contracts for Sharon Ozment and Eric Becoats, who will serve as co-interim superintendents starting March 15. Wilson said she expects to have the contracts complete this month.
I don't expect anything juicy out of those contracts, but Wilson said they will include a pay raise for the two. Also, the contracts will prohibit Ozment and Becoats from applying for the new position to prevent conflicts of interest.
Update: The two each earn $151,700.28, not including benefits.

This is good to know. Now, I suspect that Ozment will con't with GCS in her current position even after the co-sup. but expect Mr. Becoats to be looking for another high ranking position somewhere else...especially if he will not be able to apply for the GCS superintendency. You know Grier will give him a good recommendation for all of his loyalty. Becoats and Grier even gave Mrs. Becoats another promotion with her new contract according to the board minutes...she will now be Middle School Curriculum Officer...Garth/Morgan please compare her current salary to the salary of this new position for 2008-2009 contract year. Again, we must stay informed and not allow these things to slip by us....oh politics in education, indeed!

So the board doesn't want a conflict of interest and thus won't allow Becoats to submit for the superintendency position?
What about the fact that Mrs. Becoats reports to Mr. Becoats? Please tell me - is that not a blatant conflict of interest????

Are their benefits anything like Grier's-- his benefits were equal to more than 1/2 of his pay. I think the 'package deal' should be published.

Why should Becoats and Ozment receive a new contract and a salary increase while performing as interim co-superintendents? It is not likely that they will be in those positions more than six months tops. This seems like overkill, especially when they are already extremely well compensated, and these new salaries will be there for as long as they are in the system. Wouldn't a bonus be more appropriate way to compensate them for taking on more responsibility for six months?
Also, why would either accept this new role and eliminate themselves from consideration as superintendent? At least in the case of Becoats, he would surely want to be a superintendent.

I wonder if they even knew that being interim superintendents would take them out of the running or did it just happen because the Becoats conflict of interest came to light.

Cathy,
I think both new because when I interviewed them last week Ozment made a comment about returning to her position once the new superintendent was hired.

Thanks for making that clear Morgan.

Becoats can’t be a Superintendent.
He has never been a Principal.
In fact he has never been a teacher.
Co Supers. Go figure.
