District updates Advanced Learner Web site
The Guilford County Schools' advanced learning department has updated its Web pages to better communicate with the public about services for the district’s academically-gifted students.
The information includes the 2007-10 Advanced Learning plan, workshop presentations and a template of the program review the district will start using this year to evaluate schools.
"One of the reasons we did that is it seemed parents needed more information and most of them are computer saavy," said Jane Fleming, executive director of the department.

The AL plan revision for 2007-2010 was reviewed by the NCDPI and received excellent reviews. This is very interesting, since on more than one occasion, Jane Fleming has referred to this as a "compliance document" and has said it with more than casual disdain. It is March and the elementary curriculum specialists (ALCS) nor the middle school personnel have a handbook of procedures that show HOW to implement the newest plan. This is a first. these handbooks have ALWAYS been ready within a few days after students report to school in the fall. I would love to hear the new leaders of the
AL dept. talk about the plan and explain eligibility requirements and the structure of services for eligible students. I can bet you that neither of the two could tell you 5 salient points included in the plan. They are both a poor excuse for leader and appear to not have the vaguest notion of what they are doing. Must have been the package deal thing for one and the friendship connection thing for the other.
