The program should be expanded to allow kids to take high school classes from their home and only go to school to take proficiency exams in each course at the end of the semester.
Great way to let kids who have outgrown public school nonsense get their education on their own initiative.

This certainly is a step in the right direction.

One thing students have to learn is that everything is not wine and roses. Some things are boring and we don't understand how it will help us. If you are a Judge, I am sure you have many hours of boring work. A student needs to discipline themselves to the situation they are in. Telling children they don't have to go to school because the school is dumb, unorganized and not efficient only increases your problems. If nothing else, we are suppose to be preparing our children for the real world. It has bood and bad, and we can't protect our kids from the bad.

Joe,
The virtual school is not for the bored student...It is for the highly motivated and self-disciplined student that wants to take courses that are either not offerred at their high school or do not fit in the student's schedule.
For example, German, Latin II, Honors Spanish III,
Honors Spanish IV, AP Biology....are all courses that are not even available at our high school to our students.

Spanish III and IV, AP Bio not available?
What HS is this?

Eastern...is not offering AP Biology...
Spanish III... maybe
IV highly questionable....

AP Bio not even available? We need to look at how many AP's are offered at each of our schools. Perhaps it would be better to expand the AP courses offered at our High Schools instead of opening yet another IB program that's doomed for failure.

Anita,
I definitely agree.

Eastern will be offering AP Biology and Spanish IV. We have a wide array of AP classes available for our students. I strongly encourage our students to take online virtual classes to get ahead. Although, virtual classes are not for every student, we did have a small number of students taking advantage of this initiative this past semester. At Eastern, we also have students who take college level courses at Elon and recieve both high school and college credit. (Dual Enrollment) This is a new program that we just started. Our students have many options.

Why do you have to take AP English 11 and AP US History together?
What is a student would just like to take AP US History?
