This is laughable. One of the most unprofessional interviews I sat through was with Guilford County Schools. That is why I said no and went north.

I personally know of a 2nd year lateral entry teacher let go due to a technicality - told that a course approved by his "mentor" would, in fact, not be acceptable after all and that his 2nd year contract would not be renewed. If we're going to lure those with other degrees into the teaching profession, then we need to fully support them and make sure they're staying on the right track - not leading them astray and then firing them for taking the advice given!
I personally would rather have someone with passion and enthusiasm and true concern for the students, but not yet licensed, teaching than someone with all the proper licensure who doesn't really care.
This teacher started a mentoring program for males that is so needed. What will happen to this program now that he is gone? Is the letter of the law more important than the spirint of the law? Doesn't GCS realize they are not only impacting this one teacher, but every child he has inspired - or may yet inspire in the future?
