Greensboro, NC – When a student recently collapsed
while trying out for track, Catherine Old, a physical education teacher and
track coach at Jamestown Middle, knew exactly what to do. The first-year
Visiting International Faculty member wasted no time in coming to the rescue.
The student
was not breathing and had no pulse, so the heroic teacher administered CPR until
the paramedics arrived. The student survived and recovered, and the parents and
doctors credit Old’s quick thinking with saving the life of the eighth-grader.
As Employee
of the Month, Old received a $50 gift card from Sam’s Club, which has partnered
with GCS to support the employee recognition program. In addition, the Guilford
County Board of Education will recognize her at its April 10
meeting.
