Food pyramid decoded
The USDA food pyramid is baffling -- and it might not be right for everyone.
Here's the government's attempt to tailor it to every individual.

This handy little gadget will tell you exactly how much of the various food groups you should be eating, based on your age, weight, height and physical activity. For instance, it tells me if I want to gradually become healthier, I should eat 7 ounces of grains, 3 cups of vegetables, 2 cups of fruits, 3 cups of milk and 6 ounces of meats and beans daily. And it gives you tips on how to get there.
The best part about it is that it explains the serving sizes, which I always have trouble determining. It also has a neat little meal tracker where you can determine whether you meet your daily goals. I think I'll try out, since I have not been nearly as dedicated to the healthy eating regimen as Joe.

This pyramid thing seems to be even more work. Do you think you can maintain this type of thinking throughout your daily lives? If not, it will only be temporary weight loss.

I tend to agree -- but I think working some of these things into your life helps you to maintain it in your daily life. It doesn't happen overnight -- but after a few weeks I'm sort of instinctually drinking the amount of water I'm supposed to and eating the number of fruits and vegetables recommended. Both were big struggles for me at first.

Huh. I'm the opposite sex, a few years younger and according to this UNDER a healthy weight range, but it told me the exact same numbers as you.
