Suggestions for soda alternatives?

I've had a serious soda problem for years. It's mostly the caffeine -- a common American addiction and an even more common one in newsrooms.

But soda's out if I want to lose ten pounds in ten weeks. I'm not big on diet sodas and have been getting my caffeine fix from sugar-free Red Bull. But there's gotta be some better stuff out there to drink when you just can't drink any more water.

What are you guys drinking?

Diet Snapple - $1 a bottle when on sale, but worth it!

Coffee...must...have...coffee. Soda is just what I drink in the newsroom because the coffee is too awful out of that evil machine. But coffee gives you not only the caffein but you can develop a lot of pomp and ceremony around it...select your beans, grind your own, use a french press, whatever....replaces that satisfying snap of the soda bottle letting the excess carbon out as a bead of condensation rolls down the side....okay, so maybe I have a little diet soda thing myself.

I have a friend who lost a ton of weight who used to tote around a ginormous bottle of water with lemon in it...sort of like replacing a cigarette with a pencil...just something to do with your hands.

Tea. Gallons and gallons of tea. You get the water that you need to drink anyway and the caffeine that you crave. Make your own though. A lot of the tea that you can pick up has an insane amout of surgar and isn't as satisfying. Boil some water, add some tea bags, toss in some sweetner and and stick it in the fridge. You have a great drink that's an awesome substitute for soda.

If you hate tea, they have flavored water that is carbonated. I used to drink that all of the time. Little sugar, good flavors, and you get the little bubbles of carbonation that we all love about soda.

Not a bad idea.

When I lost weight several years ago I cut out soda completely. It was hard at first, but I found a lovely world of kids drinks available to me again. Fruit punch, Kool-Aid, lemonade. My friends still make fun of me for getting Hi-C at restaurants, But man, it sure does taste good. Another friend of mine swears by flavored water.

I drink water most of the time. Since I am a coffee hound of sorts, black coffee is a staple. If I need a pick up and it is the wrong time of day for coffee, a sugar free Red Bull. That happens about once a week.

And a nice glass of red wine in the evening.

First, no processed sugar. Then, water most of the time. Next, minimal beverage with meals (dilutes digestion). I have black coffee in the morning, unsweetened tea occasionally, a sugar free Red Bull if I drag in the afternoon, and a nice red wine in the evening.
