Doctor Who video game
Eidos is releasing a Doctor Who video game for the PC, PS2, DS, and mobile phones in time for its annual Christmas episode this year.
Unfortunately, unlike the sprawling RPG along the lines of KOTOR that I was imagining, it sounds like it's going to be like the other boring card battle video games I've seen. We don't need another Magic knockoff in video game form! Give me a game where I get to be the Doctor or his companion, fighting Daleks and Cybermen alongside my trusty and useful robot dog, K9. Let me wander through different planets and times, meeting up with the Face of Boe and Shakespeare and all the other wonderful characters from the Doctor Who universe -- the show has been around since 1963. Surely there's enough material for a huge non-linear game in there?

I've never played RPGs, really -- though I've done a little reporting on the Live Action Roleplaying phenomenon.
But -- do people who are into massive, non-linear roleplaying games NEED the BBC or whomever to make a game like that? Since most of it takes place in your imagination, couldn't you just as easily (or maybe even more easily) do it yourself?

I thinks she means a video game RPG, along the lines of World of Warcraft or Oblivion.
Although, it is common to create your own pen and paper RPG. When you buy one, all you're really paying for is a set of rules, some photocopy-ready forms, and some pre-written story lines. You can make your own up, or lift the rules from a system like D&D or World of Darkness and substitute Daleks for Lich-Kings.
Actually, I would be shocked if there isn't a pen and paper official Dr. Who out there. If not, there's a million home-made rule sets, I guarantee.

Heh, yes, there is a pen-and-paper Doctor Who RPG -- we own it :-)
But yes, in this case I meant a video game RPG, along the lines of Knights of the Old Republic, where you can go on tons of different quests, visit the worlds, meet different characters, choose to be good or evil -- Doctor Who is perfect for that.
LARPing is not something I've ever done.
