Steve Jobs to iPhone buyers: "Here, rub this on it. It will feel better."

Wow. Props to Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who has announced a $100 Apple Store credit to anyone who bought an iPhone when it was released.

This comes in the wake of the announced $200 price drop just two months after the product was released.

Said Jobs in his statement:

"..even though we are making the right decision to lower the price of iPhone, and even though the technology road is bumpy, we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. Our early customers trusted us, and we must live up to that trust with our actions in moments like these."

Why the parody Windows iPhone picture?

I think the $100 credit is brilliant on Jobs's part. It's buying a lot of goodwill. And he didn't have to do it. People whined, but they would have gotten over it and bought more Apple gadgetry anyway. I was very pleasantly surprised, and yeah, it makes me a lot more likely to continue to buy from Apple in the future. I guess it worked.

That's what I hear most people saying. I didn't buy an iPhone -- not least because I thought the price would soon drop -- but I can imagine I'd feel better about having done it now that Apple's acknowledged that their early adopters sort of got screwed and are trying to correct that.
