Holy Goonies Sequel!
That's right. You heard me.
Goonies.
Sean Astin (of Lord of the Rings and Mikey in the original film) says the sequel is "an absolute certainty."
Which will give Corey Feldman something to do outside of reality television.

I was about to say "NFW!", but then I read "animated" and all hope was lost...

I don't really understand the logic of making it an animated film.
I think it would make a heck of a live action movie -- though I agree that the kids of the original Goonies should be the focus of the action, not the adults themselves.
It seems like doing an animated version would play to a new generation of kids rather than the audience who'd be most interested -- people my age and older for whom the original Goonies was huge. Maybe that's the point -- but live action kids' movies do well all the time. The one with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is number one at the box office right now.
If they do end up doing an animated version I pray it's not Pixar style computer animation -- but what are the chances of that, really?

No! Why are they messing with my childhood favorites like that? There is no way it will be as good as the original! Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sean is just regurgitating the same lines that everyone involved with the potential project have been saying for years. It's funny Sean cited the DVD's sales as the reason for the sequel. That disc has been out since August '01, meaning the time to strike based on the video's heat is long gone now. Most stores offer it in the $5-bin these days. The last piece of actual news I read on The Goonies sequel was that Warners planned to make it straight-to-DVD a la the Dukes of Hazard prequel and the personally irksome Gremlins 3.
If they were going to make a Goonies project, I think the re-make route would be the best way to go, but even that's going to piss a lot of fans like Mel off. Also, the whole 'Goonies and Their Kids' idea would be lame if they made it. There'd be too many characters. On top of that, the young actor who played Chunk is quite skinny now - that means half the sequel's potential jokes are long gone. All that would be left would be Asian jokes made at Data's expense.
Anyway, here's a neat image from a jettisoned Goonies animated series that was almost made in the 80's:

The pic is too wide to post on this board, but I'm sure most Goonies fans will enjoy it.
