David Cross on Alvin and the Chipmunks

So, he decided to answer the "Why? God, Why?" question via this funny and brutally honest blog post.
Short answer: It's an effing kids movie, you're taking it too seriously and of course he did it for the money.

His alt-comedian buddy Patton Oswalt did this hilarious bit on Alvin and the Chipmunks on the album "Feeling Kinda Patton" that was absolutely hilarious. I don't think I've ever heard a funnier bit. Anyway, I just figured that had something to do with it as well. Also, those Chipmunks are about to make $200 million. Not bad for a cartoon show way past its prime. Maybe I should stop being a snob and check it out.

I love Patton Oswalt -- and I frankly think he's a much better comedian than David Cross.
He apparently turned down the same role and then gave Cross a hard time about taking it. Not sure how to feel about that -- I'm sort of on the fence about whether you should mock someone for doing a job for the money.
I do think Cross seems a little too defensive about it.
