Anti-terror groups study "World of Warcraft" for ideas
Wired has a great piece about counter terrorists looking to the online game World of Warcraft for ideas on how to stop real-world terrorism.
From the piece:
"Warcraft has a history of in-game terrorist activity. Early on, players found a curse in a high-level dungeon that would turn them into living bombs. They would then teleport to major cities and detonate themselves, killing nearby players. These suicide bombers gradually began to target areas where large number of players gathered, usually at auction houses or banks. Eventually, attacks occurred with enough frequency that some players simply avoided dangerous cities."

Glad to see Wired is all over current events. This thing happened nearly three years ago, and Blizzard fixed it. (Think airport screening that works, and without having to take off your shoes and belt.) About the only way to die in town now is to fall into the Great Forge or to be flagged during the nearly weekly Horde raid on Darnassus.
The main forms of terrorism in WoW these days is constant Chuck Norris references in trade chat and AFKers in the battlegrounds.
If law enforcement or academics want an excuse to play WoW on company time, they'd be better seeing if their are any real-world lessons to be learned from the money-laundering and fraud tactics of gold farmers and power-leveling services.

I have never played World of Warcraft myself, but I have to express my concern that this blog comment may land you on some sort of terrorist watch list, John.
Or, at the very least, alert the nerd police.
