College admission standards
A&T just raised its admission standards, making it harder for a freshman to get into. One trustee, Franklin McCain raised a concern about future achievers being denied admission because they weren't achievers in high school.
How hard should it be to get into college? When are high standards too high?

No offense to A&T, but those numbers are a "higher standard" that is hardly impressive. It is more of a sad statement on how much less is being taught or expected of our next generation. Compare these numbers to the avg. admitted student profile of other in state institutions and you will be surprised. I would say that UNC, State, App, or ECU have much more of a higher standards, and should be the model for A&T to follow, rather than maintain the reputation as a step-child of the UNC system.

Higher standards should not be based solely on test scores. High School grades, teacher recommendations, and student involvement in extracurricular activities should all play a part in the evaluation. Some of the best students may get anxiety attacks when taking exams, and some other students are whizzes at exams, but take little or no part in classroom activity. Standardized testing does not measure character, and only presents part of the picture of a prospective college student. Many unruly and even dangerous students, had very high test scores.

Maybe when these so-called higher standards are applied they will no longer have to worry about barbaric brawls at their football games...
