Welcome to Debatables, a place where we all talk about the issues of the day. Please keep them on point and constructive. Now to the first topic:
I admit that I'm not a fan of corporate names on ball parks and fields. Nice stadiums usually get stuck with awkward, inelegant name. After a few years, the name changes, confusing those of us who still refer the place where the Panthers play as Ericsson. So, I'm biased on this one, but here goes.
Do you like the name First Horizon Park? As far as corporate names goes, that one ain't terrible. How about NewBridge Bank Park? I hope you like it because come next spring that's what the ball park on Bellemeade will be called. (And I mean no ill will to NewBridge Bancorp, a Greensboro native, so to speak.)
Like the new name? What would you call it if you had the naming rights?

I just got use to First Horizon Park. While its nice that a local company will have its name on the stadium, im not sure if that name flows off the tongue very well.

Well this explains a lot! For the past few months the formerly positive attitudes of LSB The Bank employees have been "Bridged" with the apparently not so happy world of FNB employees. The LSB staff has been told by their new board's actions that they are no longer worth the same as they were before this New Bridge merger. Long time employees are dropping like flies, the result of "cost cutting measures" and the "get out while the getting is good attitude." Benefits have also been cut, causing many of the employees that are left to wonder what will be next! And where are all the savings received from these measures going? To reserves for a rainy day (which I unfortunately think they are going to need)?? To be spent on expansion or RETENTION of their current market?? NO! NO! NO! It is going to purchase 10 years of naming rights to a ballpark that another bank has found apparently unhelpful in marketing their services! That sounds like a great use of merger savings - NOT! NewBridge - Get your name out in positive ways. Stop dumping your good employees in favor of underpaid, unfriendly people who don't really want to be there. Get out into the community and let people know that this bank is going to be like the LEXINGTON STATE BANK of the past, not the FNB/LSB of the present. Don't waste your money on sponsorships when your word of mouth is killing you now!

I thought that First Horizon had a five-year licensing deal on the park name. If so, what happened to that?

I don't think its right to have those kind of names for ballparks or anything in a town. The name should reflect something that is meaningful to the area and it should remain the same always. It is very confusing to have a permenant fixture change names every few years. Why can't they just call it Gate City Stadium. Nobody cares about the bank name.

I think the team should go back to being the bats and the stadium "The Bat Cave"
I don't like company names on the public facilities, they change too often. Once something is given a name, it needs to stay "so named".

Stormy, it was a 10-year deal, but it appears as if they were able to make other arrangements.

Hi,
I have YET to see what was wrong with the old park on Yanceyville. It was PAID for and was a part of Greensboro History!

If you read carefully. Look who the main person behind the scenes is? JIM MELVIN!
Are we going to change the name of GREENSBORO, to MELVINVILLE? Or, MELSBORO, or MELSTOWN? I don't want to be considered a "Melvinnite." Sounds like some vermin in the walls. Or some cult of evildoers, in
the guise of businesspeople.
